Question about RCA P56940 56" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Blurry picture I have an RCA P56940 rear projection tvwith a ctc195 chassis. I was given this tv and it would not power up,it only made a chirp noise when plugged in. I replaced the flybacktransformer and the horizontal chipper advice I received. The tv now powers on and works fine except thepicture is out of focus and there is a red, green, and blue stripevertical up the right side of the screen that takes up about 2 inches.I can see the picture that is displaying but smaller writing like a boxsaying no signal available is completely unreadable(with a hard look Ican see thats whats in the box). Hopefully someone could point me inthe right direction.

SOURCE: 56" RCA projection TV (FLYBACK related problem)

the base to emitter of the hot will read short on a diode checker/test on ohms it vairies but typically about 50 ohms.e to c, or b to c should have very high resistance. unsolder the collector of the hot. make sure all solder is gone. now test the ohm between your tuner ground & the pad of the hot collector it should read open.

SOURCE: No picture or sound - TV makes chirping noise

The chirping sound is the power supply trying to come up, but can't due to a short or other condition. Open up the set and see if there is any obviously bad (burned) components.

SOURCE: RCA r56wh78 rear projection screen is blurry

I have the same model and the same problem - the picture just started getting slightly blurry, and moving objects get sort of grainy and jagged around the edges. I'd like to try the flyback adjustment you mention, but I have no idea what to look for. Is there a guide or reference that could help with this stuff? Schematics?

No sound no picture

That is usually caused by the horizontal output cisrcuit or the flyback. Can you post the chassis number as RCA has to be diagnosed by chassis number.

No picture or sound - TV makes chirping noise

The chirping sound is the power supply coming up then breaking down because there is a short somwhere in the high voltage. The most common fail in this area is the horizontal output is shorted ( 237470 ) but what cause this short could be simple cold solder joints or the High voltage transformer ( 239111 ) If you have noway to "ring" the flyback change both parts

TV makes chirping noise, won't turn on!

That usually means a problem in the start up or deflection circuits. Diode, Horizontal ouput or driver transformer. What Chassis is this set, and I will be ableto give you some better information. Rca , GE and phillips need to be diagnosedwith the chassis number. Let me know the chassis.

No power

The P56940 uses the PTK195 series chassis. The most common reason for that chassis not running is a shorted flyback (high voltage) tansformer. Sometimes a shorted flyback transformer will also cause the horizontal output transistor to short, and then the power supply will "chirp" when plugged in. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with the 195 series chassis.

RCA P52940 Television

The P52940 uses the CTC195 series main chassis. The most common reason for the set not to start up is a shorted flyback (high voltage) transformer. The set actually does try to start, but the computer immediately detects the extra current drawn by the shorted flyback and instantly shuts the set back off. The chassis should be checked and the flyback replaced by a qualified tech familiar with RCA projection TV's.

Misconvergence

Convergence on RCA P56940 chassis PTK195 can only be done by service center with RCA Chipper Check computer interface box. Sounds like possibly missing -15 volt or +15 volt supply to digital convergence circuit, bad i.c.'s U19503 or U19504. Supply voltages come from regulator supply transformer T19701 diodes CR19707 (-15 volts) and CR19709 (+15 volt)
