Monitor

I have a Compaq FP 5315. When I switch certain programs or start a game my screen goes black, stays black but then flickers for a split second the normal screen then back to black. It continues to do this unless I unplug the power cord wait 5 or 10 minutes and then it works just fine again until I make the mistake of opening or closing something that triggers this. I think it's a driver or something that is colliding with something else. Help please.
