Turntable arm stuck in play position

The turntable arm will not return to the rest position. It's stuck in 45 position. Can't find anyway to reset it.

    Hello,

I just bought a used turntable, and I have the same problem. When the record is finished playing, the arm lifts off and goes back only to the 45 position and then drops down onto the record again - when it should go all the way back over the cradle and drop down on the cradle, thus stopping the turntable from moving.

I cannot seem to find a solution anywhere online.

Thank you for any feedback you can offer.

I have the same problem. The play finishes, the needle comes off the vinyl and returns to only the 45 position and then drops down onto the vinyl again and plays starting at that point, and on and on it goes. It should of course lift off the vinyl, return to over the cradle, drop down on the cradle, and then by virtue of this, the turntable mechanism should stop. Cannot find any solutions anywhere online.

Wild guess but try this with the power off. Rotate the platter clockwise about 5-10 turns. You may feel internal mechanical engagement as you do it. The cueing mechanism may cycle it through its motion and return it to the rest.

If this is a belt driven turntable, then you have to replace the belt, as this units gets old the belts loosen up as well.

Haven't worked on one of these, but there is an end of travel arm sensor that needs adjustment, or is possible broken. You will have to get inside to check it out, and adjust or fix it.
If you don't feel comfortable fixing it yourself, contact Crosley support:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

SOURCE: Tone arm keeps returning to rest on Crosley CR249

Hi, Try this. with it turned off. Lift tone arm across a record to the run out groove and set it down. Now power up and hopefully it will reset itself. In all honesty I would sell it and get a decent old school player. John. Styluscity.com

How can I stop the tone arm from returning too early on smaller records?

The adjustment for auto return position is normally at the tone arm base on the left side under a rubber grommet. Use a flat blade screw driver to move adjustment screw, then test. Keep fine tuning until arm lifts at desired position. Cheers John. Stylus City NZ

Hi, if it's a second hand device. there must be something wrong with the arm at it's moving axe. if something (dust or broken support) is blocking it, it will return automatically to its rest position to avoid any damage to the fragile and sensible "head"

Arm stuck in middle of turntable won't move forward or return to rest

if the arm is automated and someone forced it to move, it could be that a gear is jammed. Open the unit to access the mechanical mechanisms and look for any stuck gears or pieces, turn on the unit and see that the motor is attempting to respond.

Hi, I;m not familiar with that exact model however the problem you are describing is commonly caused by the automatic operation at some point not being allowed to complete its full operation. Ie the tonearm has been returned manually to its rest position before reaching the end of the record. Try this. With the player not powered up lift the tonearm across to the record run off groove and sit it there. You may feel some resistance which is normal as the mech has to eswt itself. Now turn on the power and turntable. The arm should automatically return from there to its rest. Try auto operation after that. Let me know how you go. Cheers John. styluscity@gmail.com

Are the record size tabs sticking up through the turntable platter cover? They sense the size of the record being played and adjust the run out distance for either 45 or 33 rpm records.
