Hi there,

I answered a question very similar to this one here, when you do get it to start you may find that you have to flash the field on it to get it to make electricity, you can ask me how if you like.

I have a Troy built 5550 Briggs and stration generator. It will crank right up but will not feed any energy. What part should I order?

Sounds like the power regulator. Did you check breaker, you may have push or flip type. Make sure brushes are clean, they are between motor and generator around drive shaft. Be careful with them that's what tells gen to work.

3650 generator won't start!!

I assume that the spark plug are good and the gas line is clear. Try to adjust the gas line supply and default engine startup revolution settings try it full half and minimum back and forth it works. Other gen sets requires a mix of oil with its gas, please do it when it is required with exact proportion. Hope this helps. Goodluck.

Your symptoms are from running lean. Foam air filters put debris in carb jets. Check all the carb passageways and jets. Always start with a new plug.

I have not seen yor generator in practice, but saw some pictures of it.

As it is an older model, but it is not rare for modern generators too, when they stay a lot of time (3 years is a good lot of time), they lose thier magnetism.

In order to build the magnetic field up again you can connect for a short time (1 - 3 seconds) by a working motor, a 12 V battery to the field terminals, + and - respected. A series diode 10 - 25A to battery can stop the built up field voltage to overcharge the battery.

Troy bilt 5550 generator no start please help

fuel, fire, mechanical. Miss one and she won;t run. Are you sure the gas was good? Not some old can laying around that may have turned or become water contaminated? If it was fresh gas, then take off the air cleaner and spray a little wd-40, or ether, or brake cleaner whatever is flammable into the carb throat. Just a 1 second shot is all it should need. Try and start with that. If it starts and then dies quickly, still a fuel problem. maybe a gasket is damaged, or the jet is clogged. When you said you checked for fire, you acutally took the plug out and had it grounded while spinning the motor and saw spark? If you saw a hot spark then you have eliminated fire. Mechanical not likely if it was running well a short time before. If a valve was damaged, it would still run but not too well. My gut feeling is it is related to fuel.

I have an EB6500 that was sitting for a while. When I started it it ran fine then after 3 minutes the generator head smokes and you get that electronic smell, even without turning on the main breaker.

Is that all you ran it was the one time? Sounds like a mouse. Or bugs got in there and built a nest, something just burning off. Get the air gun on that thing and blow it out, then try it again, hopefully it is just dust and dirt piled up in there.

My troy-Bilt 5550 watt generator will not start

First drain the fuel bowl. Any old fuel in there will keep it from starting. Fuel stabilizer is not what it's it cracked up to be. I've worked for 6yrs at a rental yard and had no luck with any fuel stabilizer, the fuel still went bad. If after you drain the fuel bowl it still will not start, you will need to clean the carb. Remove the carb and spray carb cleaner through all the accessible passages. If this does not do it, you will need to replace the carb. For long term storage I highly recommend draining all the fuel and filling just the carb with fuel stabilizer to keep gaskets moist. Then drain the carb when you take it out of storage.
