Re: My Kenmore dryer turns on as soon as the timer is set...
Two possibilities: 1) Least likely cause. Start button is not opening when released. Don't know how far you wish to go with this but it will require some troubleshooting. 2) Most likely cause. Motor start switch has a set of contacts that close when the dryer starts and this set of contacts "seals" around the push button. If this is the case, a new switch is in order. Switch is normally replaceable without replacing the motor. Other option is use "as is".

Check your door switch and wires to see if they are damaged first. You may have a bad Start Switch. If it is a 2 wire switch you can tape them together and then plug in dryer ,if it starts, replace the Start switch. Please Rate this!
The start button works like a push-on switch that engages the timer switch. It's all one unit. It isn't engaging because the internal lever the engages the switch is either broken or worn out. The start timer/switch will need to be replaced.
Its possible the dryer heat selector is at fault. If the timer inside does not move to the end of the heat cycle you may have further problems. Depending on how old the dryer and how long it has taken to dry garments, you may want to check that the motor has not gone bad causing an electrical overload.
Faulty timers will cause extended drying times eventually putting a strain on the motor's bearings and electrical windings.
You may want to get a replacement or get a repair estimate to repalce the belt, motor, drum rollers and heating coil components.
