Question about Olympus Camedia C-160 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Wont turn on C-160, flicking screen

When i go to turn on my camera, the screen flickers from black to a darker shade of balck, i cant use any buttons or take pictures. I took out my 64mg memory card and cleared it, put it back in, and it still wont work
Today i tried using batteries i have never used before and only after that has it started doing this. Once i take the batteries out and put them back in, the screen comes on for a few seconds but then the flicking starts.
PLEASE HELP

Dear emjay187,
i have the same camera and experiencing the same problem, it doesn't matter what batteries i put in (fully charged rechargables or dry cell AA) the low battery icon flashes then the screen flickers and goes off. i suspect it to be another onboard battery so i have found a small button 3v battery soldered to the main board. i have desoldered it and am now sourcing one so when i find it and try it i will contact you to confirm my results.

regards
Michael.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, and especially so for the S2 IS. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Our camera seems to be okay but when i'm attempting to get picture, i can't see any image in LCD, is it the lens?

First try pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. If that doesn't help, try taking a picture with the screen black. Is the picture also black? Hi, I have a Canon IXUS 95IS camera.. For some reason, when I attempt to take a photo, the LCD screen isn't displaying what is actually in view? In movie mode it comes up on the screen but when i flick it...

Ah yes! you have pressed the display button. Turn the camera on and you see the icons in the display, look for the Disp button and press it, the display will cycle through its modes icons, black, image and icons.

When turned on in photo mode the screen shows moving and flickering horizontal lines in shades of black & purple and nothing else

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

LCD screen 'flicker'

Try setting the video output option to NTSC (if it's on PAL). I know this sounds funny, but I have heard some rumblings about this option somehow creating a LCD flicker. If it doesn't work, I apologize in advance for wasting your time! My camera is on NTSC and I haven't seen any flicker on the file numbers on the LCD.
