A Sharp Note vision XR-41X DLP Projector. A few Bars blinks.

Conected to a Lab To Computer at the end of the presentation showing a Video from Real Player, after it end and ready for the next one, it start to blink filling the screen with verticars bars in a patern of black and white. All buttons got desable except the on/off button. it was a refurbished unit purchased through Ebay, only 90 days waranty witch already expired and they don,t show service center at Puerto Rico.
Does it look like a big and expensive problem or could be afordable.
Where to send for repair, etc?

Ginko solution is not clear. Power cable or computer to projector cable. Projectors button are desable and there is no screen image other than black & white bars. How can I change input/output setting? Does my problem looks like a user or technical problem?

  • arcelinm Nov 21, 2008

My Sharp DLP XR-41X projector conected to a Lab Top Computer while presinting a real player movie, after it finished, began to blink showing paralel vertical black & white bars. All buttons except the on/off switch does nothing when I depress them. Unit is refurbished and waranty expired. I live in Puerto Rico and as I know there are no service center locally. I want to know first what the problem most likelly seem to be,if the repair cost worth the investment, and where I can send for repair. I have some knowledge in electronics so that minor repir i could make it so that if some of the guru upther give me some hint I could probably save it. I am a computer oriented person.

  • arcelinm Nov 21, 2008

I need more detailed solution and recommendations like: Buy a new one better, it could cost around $ plus shipping back and forth, I can fix it or for X amount I take your and send a good one, etc.

    Thanks

  • arcelinm Nov 21, 2008

No one has answer my questions. I am looking for expert advise no for funny answer that lead to nothing. Obviouslly all cable change, source change as a DVD movie from a DVD prayer etc, I have done.

  • arcelinm Nov 21, 2008

Pankag Solution was tested long time before I got into thie site problems solving alternative and didn't work.

  • arcelinm Nov 21, 2008

Could I hear from some one eslse with reasonable coments and some kind of detail that open my eyes and tell me the true in term of if it is or not worth to continue with this odisy.

    thanks,

  • arcelinm Nov 21, 2008

I am looking for response that makes sences and give some kind of detail. Every time that I receive a response is the same response from Pankaj_dic. I don't like to continue receiving the same message again "change the computer cable" because I did that already and don't work.

  • arcelinm Nov 24, 2008

Could some expert tell me what cause the problem and how to avoid it in the future? Does it a common problem with those projector?

My problem is not still solved.

    Thanks

  • arcelinm Nov 25, 2008

I had have some progress but no sure when it happened, but now, the lamp is not blinking any longer but image is not coming out, just the screen is filled with some paraler 2 inches bars down forming like a 36 inches rulers, however by pluging a video player and using the remote control, I could change the source input and I can hear the audio from both from, the projector speaker and from the projector audio ouput to an external amplifier. I also conected my desk top cumputer the projector and a cable from the projector to my computer monitor, and the computer image is perfectly transferred to the monitor.
Looks to me that is a matter of a total reset, but how to do it. Could some one tell me exactly if there is a hidden button or a matter of holding down a couple of buttons in the control or what. The solution might be close. That what expert are for.

The problem here is internal to the projector and is sensitive to heat. This is not completely uncommon. Even the larger more expensive projectors are subject to this type of failure occassionally. This problem is not likely to be resolved without sending the unit to a servicer. There are no servicable parts inside that a user can change that will resolve this easily or cheaply. There are too many possible ways to create more problems that you currently have. I work with these types of systems every day and I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but you should send this in for service. Make a few calls, you shoud be able to resolve this problem for less than the replacement cost.

I'll make a few inquiries to see if I can find a servicer close by.

I'm going to guess you don't see the comb
artifacts on the computer, that other sources look ok via composite
cable, and that your AVI files are 23.976 or 25 fps.

To send these over a composite cable the video has to be telecined
to 59.94 fields per second. To be displayed by the projector these
fields are being recombined back into frames. Sometimes the projector
is combining fields from two different frames -- so you see comb
artifacts when there is motion. I don't know how you might get around
this since it appears to be a problem in the projector.

I think that projector has a VGA input -- have you tried using
that? That would avoid the whole telecine, inverse telecine issue.

Hi,

Initially, try a reset, unplug from the mains for an extended period. In some models, there is a small reset button recessed in pin hole. If neither works, then the unit has to be opened up. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings should you be considering in performing a DIY (do-it-yourself). If this would be impractical and time is constrained, then purchase of a replacement would be logical. Perhaps you could limit your choices to branded projectors represented in Puerto Rico.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Appreciate the update on the developments so far.

Much as we hope that there would be an easy fix, unfortunately if no visible reset button, then the choices left would be:

    • DIY;

    • send it in for repairs;

    • purchase of a new unit.
However, with the above in mind, then it would not matter if you try any combination of buttons while powering up to simulate a reset.

This tends to be fault with the board inside projector .

There is some sort of short circuit inside the projector . The cost cant be estimated unless you take to service people . Since it is refurbished one the one or more parts can be damaged.

    • Cable Connection Issue between the Engine/DMD and the Main ECA where the TI DMD Control devices reside

    • Potentially multiple defective DMD pixels (cluster) this is where
multi pole pixels go bad side by side. When this occurs it cause the
entire row or column to display as a solid line (off state). If this
is the case the solution is replacement of the DMD chip itself which is
      costly.

    First check cables and connectors.

If it is not a connection problem try shutting down both computer and projector.

Start the computer first , then start the projector when computer is fully started and logged in, the projector should auto detect the channel.

Try switching the projector input until you find the signal from the computer.

If the computer is a laptop you may also have to press the video selection function key on the laptop to switch video to external connection.

I mean check the video cable, if you have bars on the screen ensure that it is not just that you have no picture, in that case check video cables and video Input /Output settings on both projector and computer.

If you see that it is not only a video problem, then there is an internal fault, probably the main board, since there is no signal.

To find an authorised service centre in Puerto Rico Call Sharp, here is the contact: Sharp: Support.

A good TV repair ceter can also do the repair.

I also report my previous solution for better clarity, it was only concerning the video, if the projector is not starting at all see the above.

    First check cables and connectors.

If it is not a connection problem try shutting down both computer and projector.

    Start
the computer first , then start the projector when computer is fully
started and logged in, the projector should auto detect the channel.

Try switching the projector input until you find the signal from the computer.

    If
the computer is a laptop you may also have to press the video selection
function key on the laptop to switch video to external connection.

I will give you instructions on what I would do if I was in your shoes.

First ensure it is not a video cable or video settings problem.
Try also connecting the computer using a different kind of cables, and see if the projector restarts working.
Do this before doing the following.

Then grab the phone and call sharp at 800-237-4277.
Ask them price for a repair, it will be surely over $150, probably more, the guy that said 20 USD here does not have a clue.
As the repair will be expensive ask the cost of a warranty extension, or an extended service plan. This usually costs less than a single repair and cover the projector repairs for one year.
If a warranty extension is available it will cost aorund $150.

Buying a new one is still expensive, but will give you up to three years of guaranty cover.

See a choice of new Sharp DLP projectors here.

See a choice of other brand projectors here.

A new projector starts at $400, here you get some suggestions:

Did you read my previous comments?

If you read them , can you explain why they should not be "reasonable comments"?

I am asking you this because I think you did not receive all my previous comments.

If the computer keeps working fine, and only the projector is displaying lines after a while, that is usually because a bad component starts overheating after a while, the projector you bought is defective, and the problem is not the lamp, but some internal IC behaving erratically when the unit overheats.

I publish below a copy from one of my old comments:

the colorwheel may be bad. if it doesn't spin, the lamp won't strike. if the colorwheel is ok, replace the power supply/ballast. you can get one and do it yourself, or send it to a sharp service center. either way, try www.avsolutionsny.com. they're really good.

Abnormal picture

if it's an xr-32x (as it shows on this pic), it's a dlp projector, not an lcd. therefore no green filter. it has only a colorwheel and a dmd chip to affect the color. if it's not an xr-32x, and it's an lcd projector, replace the green filter. sharp sells the parts for the optical engine. but if it was your service tech that did it, have them replace it.

Sharp XR10X Screen size

depending on the age of your computer, some of the older video cards in XP only will allow you to show video in 600x800 resolution. When you want to show video go ahead and change both of your display properties (both the primary and the secondary) to 600x800. See if that works.

If that is not what you are refering to go right click on your desktop and look for the properties or settings of your graphics card. it may say graphics properties . In that area there will be tons of options like (when showing video only show it on the secondary monitor) play around with the different settings on your graphics card.
Good luck
