The tray is if you want to add humidity. You will constantly be filling it. The filter light could indicate a dirty blower or debris slowing down air flow over the heater.

My Rinnai 1004F giving me error code 99

This fusible link may be open. Try jumpering the two leads and see if the unit operates. If it does replace the fusible link. Do not operate the unit without the fusible link for an extended period. It is a safety device and is there for a reason. Hope this helps.

The air filter light is coming on . Can you tell me where the filter is located and the correct way to clean or replace fillter. thank you kev

There are three filters in the RHFE-1004A. The lamp indicates the two air filters need to be cleaned. Turn off the heater. Then pull the filters up from the back of the top of the unit (the side against the wall). Vacuum or dust both sides of each filter. If you notice that the filters are greasy, clean them by washing them quickly with detergent. Rinse the filters completely and then allow them to dry before reinstalling them. (The last filter is above the humidifier water tray.)

The manual for the Rinnai RHFE-1004A is available here: http://www.inglenookenergy.com/rinnai/direct_vent_wall_furnaces/rhfe-1004fa/Owners_Manual_1004.pdf . See page 29 (page 31 of the pdf) for pictures.

I hope this helps.

I have the rinnai energy saver 1004f.. Do I have to put water in it for it to work?

Absolutely not. It does help with the humidity but you will find it empty each day because air blows over the water tray when on.

If its not producing heat, yep! If it is, it indicates that there is an error code stored in memory.

I found the manual online... I have the same thing, and had a couple of problems with it. I'll try to paste the link here: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/hectors876/1004om.pdf It's 60 pages, so I wouldn't advise printing it, but save it to your favorites list ;)
