The beeps are 3 or 4 seconds long with pauses of 3 or 4 seconds between the beeps.

The fans are spinning and the light on the harddrive is on.

Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop Won't Boot!

3 BEEPS -RAM

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

Tip

Computer beeps

If you try to power on your computer and nothing happens but a bunch of beeps there is something you can do. The beeps actually mean something. To make sure you can hear the beeps check in the bios options. If there is an option for a silent boot you won't hear any beeps. If you hear one beep every time your computer starts then you don't have to worry about this.

If you want to check this setting refer to my other tip on how to enter bios and change boot settings.

If you try to boot your computer and nothing shows up on your monitor do these steps first.
1-Check all your cables in the back of the computer.
2-check your power source and power cord to the monitor
3-try another monitor if possible
4-If on a power bar try to turn off the power bar and reset the breaker

If you try to boot your computer and nothing happens and you hear beeps look at this website. The beeps you hear are actually telling you what is wrong. Look at the website by clocking on the link below and click on the computer beep codes link. If you want to scroll down past the link it will show you bios codes to enter the bios in your computer

I have a Gateway 5228. The cpu boots but the monitor is not receiving any signal so goes to power save. The video card is built into the motherboard but there is a card slot available. Can I add a video...

Sounds to me like the integrated video has kicked the bucket. You should be able to buy a slot load card and it will work fine.

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

Blank screen

Try plugging the laptop into an external monitor to make sure the laptop is booting up properly. If it is unplug the monitor from the laptop; or if you know the laptop boots up fine and you get the windows audio when it boots and the initial starting beeps then forget the monitor. Shine a torch or light source on the screen and if you see a faint picture then the inverter on the screen has developed a fault.

Gateway 5228 wont boot no lights on keyboard

does it load the bios screen? Does it get to the windows load screens if it does go to the bios screen? Does the computer power on at all?

Sometimes what happens is the bios chip can be faulty or die and this will have to be replaced to fix the issue. If the computer is not powering on then it is more than likely a power supply issue.

(just in case, you might want to make sure that all of the adapters that come from the power supply are connected to the motherboard as well)

My gateway gt 5228 has power boots up but I have no picture on monitor and the keyboard doesn't work. Both monitor and keyboard work on another computer. what is wrong with PC

First disconnect any external devices like printers etc that you might have plugged in.
If that doesn't work then it's a problem inside the box it can be the power supply ,motherboard ,memory ,CPU and others.
If the PC has warranty then you should take it back.
If you are comfortable in opening your computer then we could try more advanced troubleshooting ,let me know if you want to try it.

PC beeping, monitor will not display

we have different sound we can hear in cases of hardware problem, once the video card has loose contact it also beep continously, a beep sound also occurs when the ram(memory card) loose contact, one beep sound when it boot clearly it proceeds as go signal going to operating system. if you are using an upgraded video card remove temporarily and use the on-board from your motherboard. in case that it won't boot and still you hear a beep, beep ,sound then, switch-off the power take out the memory card clean the contact points(bronze color) with pencil eraser, make sure that no remaining residues of eraser remained before you install to the slot. i hope that this solves your problem
