Question about NorStar M7310 Corded Phone

1 Answer

Programming a phone to pick up calls

I have a Norstar M7310 which is the main phone for our system. There are 9 other phones (M7208's). Half of the M7208 phones cannot pick up an incoming call. We want all phones to have the capability to pick up an incoming call, but still have it ring only on my line. Could you please send me instructions to make these changes.

I need more information. When calls come in, does the triangles appear on the phones you want to pick up? Do you have all the lines on the phones? Is sounds like you want only the "ringing sound" to happen on your phone, but have it appear on the others. Is this correct??

What could cause norstar m7208 phone to not receive incoming calls

If you have lines appearing on your phone and they don't ring you need to program lines to ring. This type of programming is done from a M7310 phone. Page 323 of this manual shows how to program this on a NorthStar MICS Ver 6 phone system.

Enter the programming mode : Feature **266344
You will have 4 programming buttons on your phone, normally the 2 top left and 2 top right of the 2 vertical rows.
top left = move up one level
lower left = back
top right = select
lower right = next
once you enter the programming mode press next to "Terminals and Sets"
press select
enter your extension number
press select
press next to "Line Access"
press select
press next to "Line Assignment"
press select
use the next key to go to the line you want and use the soft-key below the display to change it from "Appear" to "Appear and Ring"

Not the normal voicemail problems

Before you can do anything you need a M7310. Programming a Nortel voice mail requires M7310. It uses the 3 soft keys under the display to program it. You can get one cheap on EBAY. Next you need to find out what type of Voice Mail System in connected to your Nortel phone system. Below is a link to a Older StarTalk manual. You may have a StarTalk, StarTalk Flash, or a Call Pilot.,-69,407

Norstsar M7208 Corded phone cannot use handsfree feature

Your problem is in the phone system programming. I would need to know how old your main cabinet is in order to tell you how to fix it. On most Nortel systems you use "Feature Key" **266344 (Feature **CONFIG) . You will need to program from a M7310 phone because you need the 3 soft keys under the display which the M7208 does not have. The top 4 keys on the phone are used for programming (2 LEFT & 2 RIGHT) . I'm referring to the 2 vertical rows of keys (5 LEFT & 5 RIGHT). Upper left key is up a menu, upper right key is SELECT, lower left is BACK, and the lower right is NEXT. I believe you need to find the CAPABILITIES menu for your station/extension and use the next button to look for the handsfree setting use the key under the display to change it. The manuals are at

M7310 voicemail

You need to access Admin programming in the phone system and navigate to Capabilities and change the Forward No Answer to the DN of the voicemail....if unsure of any of this you need to be calling your vendor that handles the system for all issues or questions.

My Norstar M7310 is stuck in handsfree mode. Is there a feature or programming fix for it?

Nothing in programming typically would help with exception to maybe swap by plugging in a M7208 into your problem jack then swap back to m7310 again. Going to 08 and back to 10 can sometime clears issues otherwise sounds like a bad phone and needs repair.

Norstar M7208, it's direct line number is diverting to another ph

It could be a simple as the phone has call forwarding to another extension set up on it or the direct line could also be programmed on the other set. Does the screen on the non- ringing m7208 display "forward to:xxx" or does it display the current day and time?

Cordless phone

Just about any one will do IF you get an Analog Terminal Adaptor made for your system. The ATA requires programming in your system, so it's probably best to call a Nortel service tech.

Before some smart sould points out that Nortel has a digital cordless, remember that the "T" phone doesn't work on a Compact 308 box. Besides, an ATA and a $50 cordless is WAY less expensive.
