I was finished playing my game and decided to play a ps2 game. Well my system froze. I turned my ps3 off then on and it froze on the main sreen with the icons and time. Nothing else and it won't stop. Can someone help me.
I have the same problem dude. I played my PS3 pretty regularly for about 6 months, then one day it started freezing. I have been searching for a solution ever since, but all Ive been able to find out is that i can send it to Sony, with $150, and they will fix it and give me a ninety day warranty. But other than that i can't help you. If you found a better way, let me know please.

If you bought the original PS3 when it first came out and purchased the expensive one with the larger hard drive, it will be able to play *some* PS2 games. If you bought the cheaper one with the smaller hard drive or purchased your PS3 once the prices started dropping, it will have no capabilities of playing PS2 games, as Sony has decided to not continue making the system semi-backwards-compatible.
I might sound like a stupid solution, but if the PS3 is in a dusty area it sometimes freezes.. Try to vacume clean it.. Also, is your fan on and does it sound ok. It might freeze due to overheating. If it only freezes when you play games on a disc, it might be a problem with the laser reader, which could also be due to dust.
1st DO NOT EXPOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR ANY REASON - You run the risk of blindness and radiation exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please advise what FirmWare Version you are currently running on. You can find this under;
Settings>System Settings>System Information.
Once I have this info I will provide you with the best fix if needed but It is probably down to out of date drivers. There have been a number of changes to the blurays drivers recently and if these havent been updated then this will most likely be your problem. To solve this all you need to do is take your system online and download the newest FirmWare update. - There are people who NEVER use the system online for different reasons. Since you brought the system BluRay has gone through 4 upgrades. Any BluRays you buy now wll likely be incompatible for playback with the drivers you have on your system.
If you need any further advice on getting online with thew PS3 please post it as a new issue and I will help you - but the PS3 talks you through it to be honest
