Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 flashing red lights than 2 flashing red lights???

Ok, my xbox is second hand and i've had for about 2 years no problems. than the other day i got E74 (i know what it is) anyways i looked up fixes and most of them said it was the X-clamp, i didn't have any thermal paste or anything like that or the x-clamp repair kit, or any screws or washers around the place so i decided i'd just bend the x-clamps just a tiny bit to put a little spring back into them, and now i get the 1 red light (e74 light) and 2 seconds later the 2 red lights (overheating) and it turns itself off. this is even with the case off and in a cold room....... any idea's???

no, no. i don't think you really read the question, my problem is my xbox turns on for about 2 seconds and shuts itself off, so it won't overheat. and anyway the towel trick is only temporary and most people thinks it melts the solder in the machine and it hardens again with the peices in place, but the heat warps actually the motherboard (or something like that) and makes the problem worse!

so the towel trick is a no go and i don't recommend people do it.

by the way when i found out about the towel trick i tried it, and i think it just helped cause my problem i have.

Turn the console on, displays the xbox screen then screen goes off and a red light starts flashing on console, says system error

is this a single red light? if so, it is a E code error. if there are 2, it is a overheating problem. if its 3, it is a general system error which could be a number of things which you need to figure out the secondary error code to narrow down the problem.
to find the secondary error code:
1. after the red lights start flashing, hold down the "controller sync" button.
2. push the "eject" button 4 times and count the amount of red lights that flash. the red lights will begin to flash rapidly. secondary error codes are only 4 numbers. 1 light = 1, 2 lights = 2, 3 lights = 3 and 4 lights = 4.
after you get the code go to this website, and on the right hand side of the screen under "Xbox Repair Guide" select your PRIMARY error code (1,2,3 or 4 slow flashing red lights). then it will ask you to enter your SECONDARY error code, which is the one you discovered in the steps above.
this will give you a very narrowed down idea of what is wrong with your console, and will give us "questions answerers" a better idea on how to help ya out!

What to do if you have 3 flashing red lights on your Xbox 360 Console?

If you have the 3 rings of Death (3 Flashing Red Lights) on your xbox 360 console, all you need to do is to contact Xbox Support and report this issue with them. The Console has a 3 year warranty for the 3 flashing red lights. Just make sure you did the following first:

1. Power Cycle your Console (Turn it off, unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, wait for 30 seconds, turn it back on)**This is the best solution and it usually works!!

2. If still persist, Turn it off, remove any accessories connected to it (Hard Drive, Controllers, etc.) turn it back on without those accessories. **These accessories sometimes causes the problem.

3. If removing these accessories removed the 3 flashing lights, attach the accessories one at a time, every time turning it off and attaching one and turning it back on checking each time if the red lights (any lights) appeared. It will tell you what is causing the error.

4. If all else fails, again CONTACT XBOX TECH SUPPORT on their Toll free number. Make sure that you tell the tech that you have done those things above so they can create a report for the issue. They love the 3 flashing red lights issue. I should know, I am formerly one of them. :)

I have 3 flashing red lights on the console and a yellow light on the power supply

3 red flashing lights is known as the red ring of death. Your power supply showing a yellow light is ok, that just means that your power supply is on standby. The first thing you should do is check with microsoft to see if your unit is still under warranty with this site: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/LiveIDSignIn.aspx?redirectUrl=http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox360/registerdevice.aspx?step=repair

If your unit is not under warranty, go to www.wiredextreme.com. We are a console repair company based in Texas, and we can fix your console. We give a free diagnoses on your unit(excluding shipping), and will call with an estimate before any work is done on the unit. All our work is covered by a 90 day warranty, and you can buy up to 4 years worth of warranty coverage.

Follow this steps:

1. Turn off the xbox 360, disconnect the cables wait for 20 seconds reconnect the cables and turn it back on.

2. Check the light on the power supply ( The big brick that goes to your wall )
If the light is green that means the power supply is OK
If the light is Red that means the power supply needs to be replaced

3. If above steps doesn't work, you need to contact xbox customer support to get your xbox repaired

Three red lights

Three lights flash red on the Ring of Light (RoL) on the front of your Xbox 360 console. The upper-right quadrant light is the only light that does not flash red. CAUSE: The three flashing red lights may indicate that there is a hardware problem with your Xbox 360 console. MORE INFORMATION: If you are experiencing this problem, you can submit a console-repair request online. However, before you submit your request, first try the following two steps to verify the problem: 1. When you turn on the console, look at the light on the power supply.
