Question about Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver

Blue magellan screen-frozen

I found this sight when I had my first problem: My husband did an update (firmware 3.56(?)) for a different product which removed my voice/sound option.
Yesterday my brother in law tried to downgrade this to the 3.32. The download froze up so he removed all the cords. Now the GPS won't load. It freezes on the blue "Magellan" screen. Seems to hold for about 10 seconds and has a small flash (like a power off/off quickly). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

It was working fine the same day this happened (within mintues). I turned the unit on and it was hooked up to the laptop to download the firmware and it froze up. I downloaded the firmware on another laptop and again hooked up the Magellan and my computer and it tried loading the info from the GPS but said there were errors and that it may not work correctly. I then open the firmware to try and download it, but it says it cannot find the GPS. So no my computer does not recognize the GPS

Sissey05,

Thanks for coming back, although I'm starting to believe I am the last resort for tech support on these models.

This screen as with computers, is the blue screen of death. Unless you can still sync up with your computer and attempt to reload 3.56. If that didn't work, I would replace the hard drive which I'm sure you don't have lying around.

You could try opening the unit up (very gently), removing the hard drive (ribbon) cable, making sure the contacts are clean and re-inserting it.. other then that sissey.. in the shop we would format HDD & re-load the software. Does your computer recognize it?

Frozen Magellan

Big problem .. you had a bad firmware download and the unit is now stuck in the development mode. Two solutions .. 1) return to Magellan for a replacement. 2) If not in warranty .. there is a third party repair center on the internet .. use your browser and search for 'magellan triton repair'

run the firmware again and make sure you wait until it tells you to disconnect the usb and wait for the unit to finish the reboot.

Will only do on and off no di^play of anything except the name magellan on a blue screen

Please try the reset button/switch:
Magellan Maestro models - the location of reset button is on the left, right, or bottom side inside a small hole. Use an object to apply pressure to depress the reset button. Also try holding the power button down for up to 10 seconds to power the unit off and again holding the power button down for up to 10 seconds to power the unit on.

If the unit continues to freeze, update to the latest firmware update. Firmware updates are located on Magellan's support page. On Magellan's support page select your product family, model, and then press the submit button. Firmware updates are located in the updates/upgrade section.

Maestro 4250 frozen after incomplete 2009 map up date

I had same problem on 3/28/09.

According to Magellan and other people who have experienced the same problem, this is terminal to the unit. It can be caused by downloading the 08/09 Magellan map upgrade, which can cause the unit to permanently lock up. Magellan is well aware of the problem, and should offer to replace your unit if you have the problem. If you elect to have it repaired, Magellan can download the map upgrade for you in the repair process. Here is a site noting the same problem: http://74.125.93.104/search?q=cache:pNLjGT-i4-sJ:forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php%3Ft%3D8958+magellan+4250+gps+stays+on+blue+screen&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Questions for Magellan: 1) why would they sell, in 2009, gps units with old 2007 maps loaded in them, requiring the purchaser to buy a current map, and 2) if there is a problem with downloading the current maps, why is there not an advisement or warning to the installer.

Other than replacing the unit, there appears to be no "fix".

My magellan crossover GPS is not recognized by my PC

I had the same problem.

The device drivers are included with the firmware updates.
download the firmware from www.magellangps.com

Even if you don't need a firmware update run the installer. The installer will stop when it can't find your gps. Before the installer stops it will extract the drivers. Right-click on your gps in windows "device manager" & select "update driver". Windows should be able to find the drivers now.

thanks,
CC
