Goodmorning. I have a THINPAX Realtime GSM GPRS GPS Tracker TK102. My problem I would like from you to help if possible is that: If the electrical 220 V power is unplugged then the battery normally...

Is the unit being left plugged into a 220 AC supply socket ALL the time?

And is the power supply to that 220 AC socket being switched on and off intermittently as would happen on a boat or RV which is sometimes plugged into shore power?

Or is the unit being used normally in it's covert unplugged mode and then just getting plugged into the 220 AC occaisionally to recharge the battery?

I don't have an electrical diagram for that unit, but if you are not using the device covertly, then one possible solution is to have the tracker plugged into a PORTABLE POWER SUPPLY (power pack), which is in turn left plugged into the AC mains to recharge when necessary / possible.

Here is a link to a Duracell brand 600 watt portable power supply although there are certainly many different brands / models available:

http://www.duracellpower.com/portable-power/power-packs/powerpack-600.aspx

This type of portable power supply could probably power that small tracking device for weeks at a time before needing to be connected to a live AC power supply again to recharge. The power pack could be left plugged in even if the AC was shut off, and the tracker could be left plugged into the power pack. That way the tracker would always be powered by the power pack and could be left turned on all the time with no need to switch it on or off.

It would obviously not be a totally covert setup, but could at least be partially concealed on a large boat or RV which might work well enough if that was your intention.

I realize this is not the type of solution you were originally looking for, so feel free to click on the NOT HELPFUL rating button and another expert will automatically take over and hopefully be able to help you with a better solution.

Good luck and take care.

Joe.

How do I recharge the battery on my Garmin Nuvi 255WT? I would also like to know how to update my Garmin?

Hello,

Recharging the battery is done by connecting the nuvi to a vehicle power cable in the car through the vehicle power accessory outlet or cigarette lighter.
The unit can also be charged via a powered USB port off your computer via the USB power/data cable or an AC power adapter through the USB power/data cable.

Use the USB on the computer or an AC charger the car power does NOT fully charge the GPS
Also never plug the gps in to car when startinmg engine, kills the battery and the SIIRF chip

CHARGING MY GARMAN GPE C330. DO I LEAVE THE GARMAN ON OR OFF WHEN CHARGING . THE BATTERY WAS DEAD ON MY WAY BACK FROM MY LAST TRIP.IT WAS OK GOING UP I HAD IT PLUGGED IN TO CIG LIGHTER BUT GARMAN SEND...

Disconnect from cigar lighter and connect to the USB port of your computer or any AC adapter over night. By morning the battery will have recharged and be ready for use. This seems to happen with the GPS is left connected to a vehicle's cigar lighter for an extended period of time. You can do this USB / AC adapter recharge procedure as often as needed.

I hope this helps!

My Garmin Nuvi 255W, which comes on normally when I start the car, is not coming on. It is only about 5 months old. I keep it plugged into the lighter at all times. Do I need to worry about a battery in...

more than that! keeping it plugged into the car is damaging the SIIRF chip and battery when you start the motor. Also the unit needs to be charged properly before use in an AC charger or vIA USB The DC in the car will not fully charge the unit. In fact it also leaks power back to the battery of the car when you turn ignition off, so dropping the volatage and amps of the battery in the GPS.
ALWAYS UNPLUG BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

Always charge/recharge it prior to use in a AC or USB environment

Battery life is average 2 years unless used like you say you have. Then 3-6 months might see it collapse!

try a full and proper recharge first

Charging unit with AC adapter

I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .

How do I recharge my Tom Tom One?

I talked to TomTom support about recharging. They say that the unit uses more power than it gets, but if you turn the power off while the car is running, it will recharge.
