Do the following, let me know if it clears or not:

  1. Press the On button to turn the printer off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Remove all the ink cartridges.
  4. Wait two minutes.
  5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
  6. Press the On button to turn the printer on.
  7. Install the ink cartridges when prompted.

Remove all the cartridges from the printer.then OFF the printer completely .remove the power cord from the back of the printer.wait for five minutes.plug the power cord.ON the printer again.then before inserting the cartridges again just clean the brown colour dotted circuit on the cartridges properly and then reinsert the cartridges again.it will work properly.

Unplug it, remove the drivers and reinstall the drivers and then plug it back in, this should reset it, you can get the drivers from the HP website if you don't have your installation cd.

let me know if you have any questions about doing this or need anything else

also sounds like the electronic inkjet controllers may be faulty and not mixing the colors right

I replaced an ink cartridge because the printer stopped working and showed a message that the old cartridge is empty. However after putting the new one in but the printer still refuses to work and shows...

maybe the cartridge is wrong, release it and clean the electrical contacts, put them again one by one, if notting happen, try this
Solution As the printer operates, it moves ink from the ink cartridges into a printhead reservoir. The printer does not deliver a message when an ink cartridge goes empty, because it still has ink in the reservoir. The printer continues printing until the ink level in the reservoir falls to a first trigger point - then a message appears advising the printer owner to Replace Cartridges Soon . At this point, other cartridges that are empty but have not reached the trigger point are also mentioned in the message, to save trips to the retailer. After the first trigger point, the printer can continue printing until ink levels in the reservoir reach a second trigger point. At the second trigger point there is only enough ink left to perform vital servicing tasks, and a new message appears, saying Ink Cartridges Empty . The options offered depend on the usable inks remaining. If no options are offered, the cartridges indicated must be replaced before printing can continue. The Ink Cartridges Empty options are described in the table below: Ink colors out Option Print mode possible All Cancel None Black

AND

Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all) Black only Continue with other colors Cyan/Magenta/Yellow mode (composite black)

Text and photo quality will differ from those printed when all colors are available Light Cyan or Light Magenta (either or both) Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all)

(Black still available) Print with black ink only Grayscale

Our printer sounds and looks like it's printing, but no ink shows up on the printer

It sounds like the same problem I've had and unfortunately it is the printer head.

I have lost my ink level viewer. Hp Photosmart c5100 series. It used to show everytime I printed but now it is not there and I can't seem to recall it.

Did you install non-authentic HP cartridges? It doesn't like that and witholds information as punishment.
Try putting the following address into your web browser:
http://192.168.1.6/
this brings up my ink levels. However, I don't understand these things and you may need your own individual printer specific code.

I think those cartridges can't be refilled because of the chip they have on them. You can buy compatible ones that can later be refilled. Check in a refill shop.
