Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Presario 916us. When it sits idle for a while the monitor goes black and I cannot get it out of "hibernation". I've tried every key and combination and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

If the operating system is vista, then is has gone to sleep, all you have to do is press the on/off button
you can change the settings, go to the control panel > power options and on the left you will see "change when the computer sleeps"

hope this helps

It wouldn't by chance be going to sleep or hibernating to save power would it? If so check your Power Option in the Control Panel.

If the desktop is going black after it boots up all the way then try another monitor because it could be your monitor or the video card inside the computer.

Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays without the problem you are having then the video card inside the computer is good, but your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor display fades away to black like your original monitor then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Sounds like your monitor or video card is bad. To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays and works ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor does the same thing as your original monitor, then the video card inside the computer is bad.

You might have put the computer into hibernate; have you tried pressing the power button? It should wake the computer up if it is asleep or hibernating. It is also possible that your monitor cable is unplugged.

Monitor malfunction, says VGA Input: No Signal and goes to sleep

If it was your video card, you would have no picture at all. Try to boot in safe mode and do into your options and make sure your hibernation is not on. Only other thing I can think of, it could be *********** board.
