Question about Computers & Internet
My friend's Acer keyboard has the following keys that do not work:
1!, Qq, tab,caps lock, & the four chevron keys. the warranty is out. (win XP) She is using Kapersky security software. She is using this laptop for work only & is very cautious regarding downloads.No games,music, nothing- just work stuff.
Control panel,keyboard, revealed "Device working properly"
We dont have a spare keyboard to test this angle but maybe somebody may recognise the symptoms.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Ok this may sound weird
but this is what works for me
simply remove your battery back while the ac adapter is plugged in
your touch pad and keyboard should work now
when you have all systems go reinsert your battery pack

Same solution. With computer turned on and and power cable plugged in Remove battery. The touch pad and keyboard should start working.

Unlikely to be software related. Plug in a USB keyboard and see if the 1!, Qq, tab,caps lock, & the four chevron keys work on that. If they do, then the laptop keyboard is the problem. Not sure how much trouble it is to remove the Acer's keyboard, but the first thing I'd do is reseat (unplug/replug) the connector that goes from the keyboard to the mainboard and see if that helps. If no change, you can try removing the keyboard from the laptop and cleaning it. Tapping it edge-on on a hard surface, blowing out the grunge, Q-tip with alcohol to remove spillage, or even soaking it in warm water to get the goop out. Just be absolutely certain its thoroughly dry before reinstalling it. If you've gone the water route, that means several days with warm air moving over it, flipping it over a couple times a day. Worst case, you can buy a replacement keyboard, or use it with an external USB keyboard.
