If the new memory card is an SD card, you should be able to use up to 2GB. MMC can support up to 1GB. You can check this link.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=ModelTechSpecsTabAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=14824#SupportDetailAct

I would suggest trying another card if that happens to be an SD card.

Hope this helps. Pls dont forget to accept the best solution. Thanks!

open up the cameras memory card door and clean the contacts with a electrical contact cleaner available at any auto parts store and spray couble of shots and let it dry.  Seems the memory cards contact points get dirty after so much use and need to be cleaned. This would probably work on any kind of camera that uses memory cards and has the same problem.

Sir the solution is simple the file size limitation on that paticular model is 1gb. No matter what you do you will only be able to format and use a 1gb memory card. This should help!

Cannon Powershot S2IS memory card slot will not work

What type and size memory card? The S2 works with SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

What's your problem?canon powershot a550 does not power on.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

I have a Cannon PowerShot SD600. An 8G SD memory card is not working; what is the maximum capacity for this camera? Is there a way to upgrade it or do I have to stick with a small memory card? Thanks

The SD600 uses MMC and SD cards, which max out at 2GB. Your 8GB card is actually an SDHC card, which is electronically incompatible and will not work in the SD600.

How to unlock a memory card for a cannon power shot a550 digital camera please -mail me at,pbmelach@bell south.net or cal at 318-253-6742 Thanks! ...

Hi,

Some memory cards have a Write Protection switch on them.
To check this please remove the Memory card from the camera. Check if there is a "lock" switch on the left side.
Slide this switch to the "Unlocked" position, and reinsert the card into the camera.

This should resolve the issue and the error should go away.

In case the issue persists, it could mean the the write protect on this card was perhaps set by mistake while it was connected to the computer.

You will need to use the computer to cancel the read-only setting.
Please connect the card to your computer through the camera or a card reader and cancel the write protect on the card.

If this doesn't work for you, please comment and let me know, and I will be more than happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.
I will appreciate your feedback and positive rating.

Cant unlock memory card

The little slide switch may be broken inside the card. Do you have another card to try in the camera? If another card does work in the camera, then it's time to buy a new card. They're inexpensive these days anyways at about $6 for 2GB:

Memory card

Unfortunately, the A520 does not support SD memory cards with more than 2GB capacity, and doesn't support SDHC at all. (1GB max for MMC cards.) I know memory is much cheaper than when the camera first came out, but in 2005 2GB was about as large as you could get.

Camera will not shoot

Did you try setting the slide switch on the side of the memory card? And if that doesn't work, did you try a different memory card?

Memory Card Locked

You have raised a valid point if the camera has a reading problem then it would have problems reading all cards But it read the original OK? I think this is best addressed to Canon Support it seems that there is a problem that may only be resolved by them perhaps exchanging the camera for another
