Question about D-Link Air DWL 520 802.11b (DWL-520) Wireless Adapter

D-Link Air DWL 520 802.11b Wireless Adapter problem

I updraded my D-Link dir-625 wireless router to V3.06 and now my wireless adapeter on another computer won't connect or even detect the signal. I have two laptops that connect OK. I've reloaded the adapter driver, tried uninstalling it, disabled and enabled it, changed just about every setting I could and even did a system restore on the affected computer to see if that could be the problem. I've taken all the security off the router (I live in the country with nothing nearby to pirate a signal). The little green light on the adapter flashes a few times if I reboot the computer but that's it. The ipconfig show the ethernet connection is not connected as well as the wireless. I'm at a loss except to buy another usb wireless card.

Oh, it's not a USB card I'm using, my D-Link Air DWL 520 802.11b Wireless Adapter is mounted. I can try taking it out and reinstalling it.

It actually saw the network but when I tried to connect, it started to connect then stopped and now it doesn't find any networks again. Very odd.

I've tried changing the channels, no luck, Also I had "Excellent" signal strength before losing the signal.

  • allan_walsh Nov 20, 2008

The signal strength was "excellent" before it tried to connect. The computer is close to the router.

I looked at the log onthe router and about the time I tried to connect it showed:

Wireless system with MAC address 001195E4BDE3 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication.

That`s right, took off all protection. Firmware upgrade.

On the computer with the USB wireless card. Uninstall the wireless adapter program and use only the driver so that you can connect with the Windows wireless configuration utility. Then restart the computer and see if you are able to see the signal now. if not create a profile put in the SSID of your network and connect

Same difference it will not matter. Uninstall the program then just install the driver.

Uninstall the program then restart the computer put the CD in the drive then if the installation for the CD comes up cancel it. The found new hardware wizard should come up. Choose the No not this time then install autoamtically after that a small single computer icon should come up in the lower right corner of your screen right click then click on view available wireless networks then see if you can see a network now.

How far is the router from that computer. Make sure that the adapter antenna is screwed on securely next thing try chaging the channel on the router to 1 or 11. Also try lowering the beacon interval to 50 and fragmentation threshold to 2304 also try to point the antenna towards the router.

That will isolate if the problem is a low signal strength. Try as well to wrap the antenna in aluminum foil to boost its receiving even just a bit.

I would assume that you have completely no security on the router any longer. By the way when you said initially tha tyou upgraded the router was it a hardware upgrade or a firmware upgrade?

Just a question did you do a hard reset after the upgrade of the firmware? Most router manufacturers require a hard reset after a firmware upgrade Before the unit will work as normal? Ive experienced that a lot with Netgear and Linksys routers so i would imagine it to be the same.

Lastly make sure that the computer is atleast more than 5 feet Away from the router as signals will bounce.

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

The WPA key is the encryption key that is configured in the router's wireless settings and the wireless cards in the laptop and desktop needs to be configured with this encryption setting to allow the laptop and desktop computer to communicate with the router.
You can view the encryption settings in the router's wireless settings or on the laptop's wireless card settings and then apply these encryption settings to the desktop's wireless card (ie. the SSID and the WPA encryption).

Is the DWL-520 Wireless Adapter compatible with the 2701 HG modem

Hi,
The 802.11b and 802.11g Wi-Fi networking standards are generally compatible. An 802.11b router / access point will work with 802.11g network adapters and vice versa.
There is no such conflict reported with the above devices. But as suggestion use an 802.11g wireless card with the Bell as it would give you better performance

D-Link Air DWL 650 connecting to my Dlink router

You need to go into the wireless driver advanced properties and set the SSID, WEP Key, channel and others. Wherever there is an 'auto' option, choose it.

I never got the dlink utility to work. I let windows manage it and change the device settings in advanced props.
