When I press the button on my Kenmore gas dryer, it makes a buzzing sound but the drum does not turn. The belt and wheels were replaced a year ago. It had worked from time to time but does not work at all. Model number is 87581800. Dryer is 20 or more years old.

Ummm... mine wasn't starting either. pressed the start button and heard a click/hum. read all these posts, and checked the door switch first, and that tested fine with a multimeter. then, i pulled the dryer away from the exhaust tube with the intention of testing the heat fuse, and found a surprise.that would make Bullwinkle cry !! ...jammed up in the dryer vent receptacle, and against the drum was a roasted and mangled squirrel. was not a pretty picture, and some flies flew out. seems he chewed his way into the external vent cover screen. Nasty !! rubber gloves, and lotsa paper towels later, i hooked everything back up, and the dryer started. soooo, check for a blocked vent first before you pull everything apart.

So if the motor doesnt start is just buzzing, The windings have gone out in the motor. You have to replace the whole motor. If you get me the model number i can get you a part number and you can order the part from sears.

Whirlpool dryer makes a buzzing sound whey start button is pushed. sometimes it will turn on for a few seconds but most of the time it just buzzes.

The buzzing is probably the relay trying to start the motor. See if the motor has a capacitor, have it checked. If the motor is all clogged with lint, the start/run switch can get blocked. Clean out all that lint with a vacuum cleaner.
Check the tub bearing, and make sure the drum spins freely.

My dryer makes a buzzing noise when I push the start button

My Hotpoint dryer is seven years old and did the exact same thing. When I got over the anger and the thought of spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars to replace it I started messing with it. I finally decided that since it buzzed when I tried to start it there was current there. The only other thing it could be was the drying cycle knob.
I held the start knob and let it buzz while I slowly turned the dryer cycle knob to the right. As I turned through each cycle it would hit "off" and the buzzing would stop and then resume as I moved past the "off " setting. On the third trip around the dryer "started" and has been working since. Maybe something got out of kilter. Apparently the problem was in the knob that controls the drying cycles.

Dryer work turn on, buzzes when start is pushed

It may be just your timer switch. Look at all the wiring first. The receptacle to the plug, cord and into the back of the dryer.

Quinny buzz

Tyres-press the light grey button on the chassis next to the wheel slot as you push on the wheel (this is also the button you press to release each wheel).
Opening it is easy - With Buzzwheels on the ground, remove safety hook (plastic loop on left side of handle fixed to peg inner left rear wheel) ten simple lift handle and Buzz frame should automatically pop up.
Closing takes more practice-put on brakes (press red foot pedal) stand to side of chassis and at bottom end of handle there are two large grey buttons. With left hand on left button push button forwards (ie direction of chevrons on button) then press in. At the same time push in right button with right hand. Whilst doing this you also need to push down and forad on frame and it should fold down. If you don't push buttons enough it can click. When folded remember to put on safety hook before transit, otherwise it might pop up on its own. Hope this helps. You can download the manual with instructions from Quinny website too if pictures are helpful!

Buzzing noise when pressing start button

does the buzzing noise sound more like a hum, if so could be a bad motor or possibly something stuck in blower wheel.
