Question about Sharp R-1750 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Sharp R-1750 shuts down.

The screen has had the usual display issues for some time. My wife and I simply memorized the button positions from the manual, and have been using it thusly for years now. Last week a new problem developed. After starting the microwave, it would run a few seconds and suddenly shut the entire machine down, as in total power failure. Unplugging will reset everything, but it now shuts down the instant you hit the start button. Is there any chance the usual board failure could be the cause of this as well? We really like this machine...

The shutdown you're experiencing is separate from the control unit / display issue.

The shutdown is probably due to a a loose fuse holder, loose wiring, or a problem on the inverter board or the magnetron.

If the control unit doesn't receive the proper signals form the inverter, it will shut down the cooking process, but you say it acts like it's being unplugged - that makes me suspect a loose fuse or wiring.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person attempt to take readings on these inverters.

Sharp microwave R-410LK fan and light do not turn off.

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

  1. Main control boardIf your microwave runs for a few seconds and stops, the first thing to check is the main control board to ensure that a shortage has not occurred. If the part is defective then it will need to be replaced to prevent continual shut offs. If this is not the issue, the next step would be to check for a faulty touchpad.
  2. Touchpad/Control panelIf the control board is not the issue and your microwave continues to shut off after running for only a few seconds, the next thing to check is your touchpad, which is also known as a control panel. Although uncommon for this issue, symptoms are usually that the display and some buttons are working properly; however, when selected some buttons are not functioning. If this is the case the touchpad will need to be replaced.

Sharp microwave suddenly died !

The high voltage transformer that feed the klystron tube usually has a cartridge fuse on its 110 v side.

YOu will have to remove the case to access the electronics... the screw should be obvious...

Note.. you are handy- so the obvious (unplug first) and the even more obvious - keep fingers and metal away from all capacitors in the power supply area.

JVM 2070 shuts off

My unit does the same thing - it will often simply power down or power down and display garbage on the control panel within a second or two of starting operation.  I have found in my case this seems related to slight obstruction preventing the exhaust hood from pivoting to the open position at the top of the unit.  Mechanical misalignment of the pivoting fan panel seems to cause a motor overdraw, or something similar, which shuts down the unit.  I've found that I can usually slide the pivoting fan panel a mm or so to the right or left, usually right (oddly), and then the panel will swivel unimpeded and the microwave will work.  As my unit has cabinets above it, I believe that over time there has been sufficient physical contact/impact with the pivoting exhaust panel to slightly deform it, affecting its ability to freely rotate down from the vertical.

Sharp microwave oven door won't close!

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

If needed, the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.
