Question about Sharp R-1750 Microwave Oven
The screen has had the usual display issues for some time. My wife and I simply memorized the button positions from the manual, and have been using it thusly for years now. Last week a new problem developed. After starting the microwave, it would run a few seconds and suddenly shut the entire machine down, as in total power failure. Unplugging will reset everything, but it now shuts down the instant you hit the start button. Is there any chance the usual board failure could be the cause of this as well? We really like this machine...
The shutdown you're experiencing is separate from the control unit / display issue.
The shutdown is probably due to a a loose fuse holder, loose wiring, or a problem on the inverter board or the magnetron.
If the control unit doesn't receive the proper signals form the inverter, it will shut down the cooking process, but you say it acts like it's being unplugged - that makes me suspect a loose fuse or wiring.
Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person attempt to take readings on these inverters.
