Yes. if you pull all the wires from compressor and use a meter with a continuity bell , touch a copper line and then a compressor terminal. try em all. odds are you'll hear a bell showing continuity or the fact that power can flow directly from the compressor terminal to the chassis= a grounded compressor. or you could have a dead short where the wires in to the compressor aren't touching the case but are touching each other before they go to the motor windings, = a short. either one is an all done situation. time for new .

Try replacing the relay/overload on the compressor, if that doesn't fix the problem then you have a bad compressor

My freezer keeps overloading our switch board, whats wrong?

The freezer has a compressor which will draw quite a lot of current in the first half-second when it starts.

Either: Your freezer has a electrical problem and needs to be fixed,

Or: there is already too much drawing on the circuit that you are trying to add the freezer to, and the freezer is more than the circuit breaker will allow.

First try powering the freezer from some other socket on a different circuit (use a long cord), or unplug a few things that are nearby (in most houses, there will be several wall sockets on the same wire in each area of the house).

If the freezer runs fine from a different socket, or when you unplug some other stuff, then the problem is you are overloading the circuit you were originally trying to add it to.

If you can't get the freezer to run on any socket without tripping the circuit breaker then probably the freezer has an electrical fault and best you get a real electrician to check it (safety first!).

Is it possible for a delfield freezer 6151 XL-S to trip a breaker every 2-3 hours if the TXV valve was faulty letting liquid get to compressor. This unit has had controller and relay start assembly...

I would look to see if it is tripping during the defrost cycle. One of the heater elements my be faulty. Never heard of a bad TXV causing a breaker tripping, but I guess it's possible. I would adjust the superheat so that it is about 6 to 8 degrees just prior to unit reaching temp and shutting off. I'd start there.

The starter/overload relay may be bad or the compressor is overloading the relay. See how to test them here. How to check stuff> http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

Everything works fine, except when the compressor kicks in the panel breaker trips.

Most likely a short in the compressor electrical components (relay, overload, capacitor) Supco makes a 3 in 1 that you could use. If this works fine, if not "bad compressor".

Check the start relay. If it is OK the compressor is bad.
