I have a Viewsonic VX900 LCD monitor that shows no display from a video source. I have tried DVI and VGA sources and nothing. The backlight definitely works and I can navigate the monitor's display settings and it works just fine.
I went over the boards checking for continuity, they checked out okay.
What could it possibly be? I know that there are many problems with this monitor, but it seems most of them have to do with the backlight.
Everything looks okay, no swollen or busted caps, no blown components etc. But I can't figure it out.
Thanks in advance for your guys' help,
Simon.
(BTW there was no VX900 category so I just selected VX910)

It is impossible to see defective components visualy, unless there was a serious burn-up or something like that.
Without at least a DVM you cannot even verify if the power supply is functioning properly!!!
There is no support at the component level service for these monitors. The service tech will change the main input board to solve the fault that you have. If the back plane lamps are failed, he will change the power supply for the back plane lamps. In some of these models, the back plane lamps are not replaceable. This means that the screen would have to be replaced.
If you want to service the monitor the non supported way, call Viewsonic and see if they will sell you a copy of the detailed schematics, and engineering data for the boards. Most monitor companies will not sell any schematics or service information to no authorized contractors for their service.
If you can have the details, get a digital scope, a DVM, a logic analyser, and start troubleshooting according to the service manual. This can involve hours of work to figure out the fault. Then you will have the task of seeing if Viewsonic will sell any of their proprietory EPROM's or processor type parts.
This is why when the warranty is finished on these monitors, they are not worth to send back for service. The shipping cost, plus the parts and labour can come out to more than the monitor is worth!

I RMA'd this probablem as well. They asked the usual questions -- try it alone, check the connections, are you using VGA or DVI... blah blah. Eventually they could give me an RMA.
They have customer support via phone on Sundays in the US, which is nice. Total time from calling to RMA was about 20 minutes.

If you have the pc on and the monitor light stays green, take a flashlight to the screen. If you can see the images while shining the flashlight into the screen, they will be hard to see but they will be viewable, then its most likely the back light. The vx900 takes 4 bulbs and they are about $12 US each. Anyone who knows how to solder should be able to replace them.
SOURCE: ViewSonic VX910 monitor has a power supply issue.
Your monitor have a bad condensator in the PSU.
The only thing to
do is to replace the Power Supply Unit (very expensive, more than a new monitor) or if you have
electronic tools, found and replace that condensator.(cheaper way...)
or
Have you connected your monitor with a new power cord ?
Best Regards!

Go to the setup menu on the LCD panel by pressing button 1 on the front. See if there is an option to reset the lcd to factory settings. Reset it and report if it helps not.
