First of all, does it only happen with COD? If it only happens when you try to play that game, then it is the disc. If it happens with all games, i suggest to call Xbox Support. If you say it ain't the cables, then i would get one of those disc's that clean the drive in the xbox, try it again. If your out of your warranty, you can buy a new xox 360 Drive, i do not know if your up for that task though.
It may be your cables, if you are using HDMI cables a low signal from the cables causes screen "garbage". Try using a different set of cables. I got my HDMI cable off amazon.com for 5$ so they're not that expensive just read the customer reviews before ordering them.
if your 360 is still under warenty with microsoft they will replace your games and your system. give them a call. If its not under warenty you will have to purchase a replacement disk drive as its clear the laser is off kilter. In the mean time i would suggest not putting any other disks into the system until the issue has been resolved. Good luck!
I am having that exact same problem at the moment, I've read on here that it is due to the unit overheating and the solder melting on the graphics card. One of the solutions is to melt the solder by overheating the unit by wrapping it in a towel or heavy blanket to get the unit to overheat for 15-20 minutes. I already had a cooling tower for my unit, but it was clogged with pet hair. After the overheating is complete I plan on placing it in my garage for 30 minutes to cool. I as well play CoD World at war, I wonder if the game is too graphics intense for this system while playing in HD. Anyway either way, this is not covered by Microsoft's warranty, I will try to get my unit the red lights of death if this does not work to get it replaced by microsoft. Good luck!
best thing to do is send it back in to microsoft, if you open the xbox 360 case you will void the warranty, and they wont bother helping you. If you have already voided the warranty, you can find xbox 360 dvd drives on ebay or craigslist for around 30$ USD. Only the drive alone, not a whole xbox
