Question about Compaq Presario 5000 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Volume Jerry I have it hooked up to the tower but there is an extra plug in that comes from the speaker itself; it says 12v dc, 1.0a on the speaker where this extra cord is. I looked at the screen that it originally came from and the screen has a plug in on it for this cord. the original screen is a Compaq and the tower is a Compaq, I have just upgraded the screen.

Oh i see the first question was way to vauge to really answer. it sounds that this is a powered speaker meaning it requires that 12v that you are reading and wont work without it. i am assuming that the cord coming from the speaker is a male end that plugs into female if that is the case it will be difficult to find an adapter to plug into the wall as those have male ends as well. if there is a female plug on the speaker you should be able to find an adapter that plugs into the wall outlet(transformer) just be sure to match up all specs i.e. 12v 1.0a

How to double check speaker hook up on asus desktop computer

maybe they have the volume muted. Check to make sure the volume is not muted and that the speakers are plugged into the light green port in the back of the computer.

Make sure the volume on the physical speakers are turned on and turned up. And make sure the volume in the Audio Sound Properties it turned up and not muted.

If you see the speaker megaphone at the bottom right near the time click on it to adjust the properties.

You can click Start/Control Panel and look for Sound or Audio properties.

Connecting speakers to a pc

The 12v dc power supply is for the speakers. There should be a spot for it on them. All modern PCs use power speakers, since the sound cards have no amplifier.

I have computer speakers with a 12v DC 1.0A chord that used to connect to my old monitor. My new monitor does not have a plug in for this. Is there some way to power the speakers with something else? ...

Go to your local tech shop and buy a universal (with lots of contacts or plugs) adapter for 12VDC 1.0A. Take note also of the +/- setting.

I have a new Acer desktop model Aspire X1301 and it seems to work fine except for a complete lack of sound. I have the audio wire hooked up to the rear of the tower - there are several ports to choose from...

First thing I would make sure it is plugged into the correct port. Make sure it's the one with the headphone Icon...They are usually green, but i've seen some pink ones. Physically get behind it and look. Then I would make sure the 3.5 audio plug is plugged into the monitor. I looked it up and there are 2 speakers in the monitor. Then when the PC is turned on and you are playing music, check the settings on the monitor itself...the little silver buttons in front...make sure the volume is turned up. Also, check the volume on the PC itself down by the clock. There will be a little speaker icon..make sure that it's not muted or something. Hopefully this helps ya, if not post back and we'll troubleshoot some more.

Asus a7n8x-e deluxe, nvidia geforce 6800gt 512 - OS doesn't start

Try to start your computer into a safe mode and then remove the old graphic card driver but if you cant get to safe mode then probably theres a problem with your operating system. Consider reformat and install a fresh copy of any OS you prefered.

My Emachine is only 2-3 yr's old now & I have never had sound. It was the cheapest one & on sale. I must have chose one that did not have a sound board. I can not put in a sound board by myself...

Are you sure there is no onbaord sound it should look like microphone or headphone socket holes. If it does then you are needing the correct driver. Open the tower and check what motherboard you ahve then post again for the correct driver.

If there is no sound onboard then it is very simple to install a pci soundcard anf they are very cheap. I certainly wouldn't go buying a new tower for just sound. Google on installing a pci card and you will see how easy it actually is or ask a young friend they know heaps about computers.

Hooking up speakers

On the back of your computer tower (that thing with the power button on the front) you should see three small headphone jack looking thingies, with colored bands around them. Your speaker cord plugs into the green one, if you have a microphone, it goes in the pink one.

Your speaker set should have a wall wart type power supply, plug that into any convenient outlet, and plug the other end into the proper jack on your speakers.

The volume knob on your speakers is also an on-off switch, turn it on.
