I get nothing at power switch, though the light on front edge shows power to laptop. One note - in trying several things, I unplugged the battery. If I then plug it back in with screen open, it tries to boot up, I get the "HP" emblem on screen for a moment, the disk drive spins, then the screen goes black and all is quiet again. Thanks. Skip

Re: My HP DV1000 will not start.
You have a power issue. The board is not charging the system or the battery. If you know someone with a similar model, ask them if you can borrow their battery and see if your system boots with it. If it does, you may need a new adapter or the power board in the notebook is out. When you remove the battery and try it, there's enough juice to power it up for the moment, but not sustain it.

The lid actuator switch may not be working correctly. It's a small switch above the keyboard and led's on either the right or left side. Try pressing it 2 or 3 times to see if the display starts working correctly again. If so, it will need to be replaced.
If that doesn't work, you can also turn it on with the ac adapter plugged in. After it boots, press the power button and hold it in until it shuts off and then turn it on again and see if the display has returned to normal.
If neither of these options work, your laptop may need to have the backlight replaced.
All lights come on HP Pavilion dv1000 but will not boot. looked at motherboard and by power connector there is a blown part the number on the board shows PD27. I need to know what thhe part is or a schematic showing
1) plug YOUR power adapter into your friends hp dv1000, see if it turns on laptop.on. If yes, then u have one less problem. 2) to trouble shoot a laptop takes a lot of skill, stuff is very small, things could be damaged just by pulling the wrong way. you would HAVE TO BE very carefull. Look for the trouble shooting manual 1st. or find a good technical person.
