Hi.

E04 means that the reels encountered an unexpected resistance, or that reels are not running.

Check if the problem is the tape by using different tapes.

Check if there are foreign objects (eg tape) stuck inside the slot.

If that does not fix the problem, then the camcorder must be disassembled by a technician.

In that case you can get a quote on repair here:Repair

SOURCE: JVC GR-HD1U power button fell off, where can I get it replaced?

You will need to send it in for repair, no outside repair facility can do this type of repair locally. JVC will most likely offer an exchange and not repair the one you now have.

Just bought a used JVC GR-HD1 camcorder. Bought two new SanDisk SDHC 8GB memory card. When I press "record" I get a "card error" message with both of them. Are they the wrong type of...

This camera can not use an SD card of that size. Just like with any computer intergraded hardware, they have to write parameters of that day into the operating system of the device. They can not just leave it "open ended" to allow any size that might be available in the future. I believe the maximum is 1GB of standard SD speed (as in not the max of ultra speeds). 1GB would be more than enough at the resolution this camera will store still frames (it can not store video on SD cards). This is from personal experience with my own GR-HD1U.

Hi, forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know but if you shot video in DV mode then the iLink switch on the camera has to be set to DV. If you shot video in SD or HD mode then it must be set to MPEG2.

I need to replace the CCD in a JVC GR-HD1U camera. Where can I find a repair manual for that?

These are impossible to find free on the net but it's not a bad price if you are doing this repair yourself and saving hundreds.

JVC Mini DV HD Cyber Cam (model GR-HD1U). Power button popped off. Is this something I can fix

I had the same issue with mine and finally lost the button. I could not find a way to get it to stay in (and I'm very good a figuring things out like that). I'm pretty sure something broke and left no sign. I called JVC when it happened back in 2007 but there was no recall on this. The tech I talked to could not find the part and told me it was not available. Two years later I decided to try again and this time talked to a tech lady that was very open about how and what she was looking at to find the part. When she could not find it, she emailed me a parts diagram (exploded view) of every component set that makes up the camera. Turns out that the switch is not mentioned anywhere in the parts list that correlates with the diagrams because it;s part of an assembly that has do be replaced as a whole. This is more info to back up my thinking that the switch can not be put back in place once it pops out. After we both looked at it for a while I found it as the exploded view is not showing that portion of the handle in full view. I forget the name of the assembly but I think it said something like Power(rec?) board IDK. Either way it sounded more of an internal thing but that was it. I will be ordering this part this year so I will have to dig up all that info again. The process to replace this switch assembly is very complex and requires that the handle/tape housing be removed from the camera. Then it all has to be taken apart with tons of micro screws and small parts. No unsoldering that I could see (most every mini board disconnects with mini plugs. Let me know if you want more info once I order this part. I think it was around $150 but I hope it is still available.

Camera fell and doesn't work

if it fell most like something inside broke causing it not to work.
most like unit will need service. this units can only be service at jvc factory service centers. so you can call jvc directly at 1-800-252-5722 and they will give you info to which factory you can ship it to for repair. but of course it will be out of warranty.

Condensation, operation paused, JVC Video Camera model GR-D70AS

If the camera becomes damp or cold and brought into a warm atmosphere damp forms in the mechanism which would cause the tape to stick and become damaged or fouled.

leave the camera to warm up for a few hours and the fault should clear.

If not the most common reason is the dew sensor has failed and needs replacing

I cannot copy HD recording to JVC DVHS VCR at HS speed

There may be times when the GR-HD1U playback HD stream thru the 1394 connection is not correctly recognized by the DVHS. Instead, it is recognized as an SD signal stream (only selection of speeds STD or LS3 is possible). To correct this, first perform an i.LINK reset as described in the manual for the VCR (for example, HMDH30000 manual pg 58). Then make sure the GRHD1 menu setting for i.LINK output is set to “SW”, and that the i.LINK switch, located underneath the camera screen, is set to MPEG2. This should allow to copy HD tape to VCR at HS speed.
