Question about Car Audio Receivers

1 Answer

Rating on the solution I gave you

Why the "Helpful" rating for my solution? It was the very best information you could have gotten anywhere and you give me a rating that hurts my overall rating. You may not know this, but a helpful rating is really not that good. For experts with a rating of over 90% it drops their overall rating.

What do you think we work here for free for? We like to help people with their problems, and when we give somebody the very best answer they could get anywhere we expect a good rating. It is the only incentive to offer people like yourself FREE help.

I hope you will consider this if you ever need help again, you will not get that help from me, because I will not offer people expert advice who have given me a bad rating for the absolute best advice they could get anywhere. I won't help those who do not even appreciate the great help they have already received.

As I said in the other post, there is no other way to do it. I work at an authorized Kenwood service center and know for a fact that there is no other way to clear the code. I have repaired hundreds of Kenwood radio's over the last 18 + years and have talked to Kenwood engineers about this problem. It is a theft deterrent feature, and it is the way they designed the radio. Plus, Kenwood doesn't want anybody even knowing of this method to clear the code. They want customers like you to take it to an authorized service center to get the code cleared.

It didn't hurt my feeling, it frustrated me. I just feel that when I give, what I know to be, the absolute best answer to a problem it should be rewarded with the best rating. After all, I am doing this service for free, volunteering my time just to help folks like you. Because you don't like the solution doesn't make it a wrong solution. If you were not going to believe what an expert is going to tell you, why then even ask the question. If you find another method of clearing the code that doesn't require the remote I would be willing to pay you money for that. But I know there is no other way. I take that back, there is one other way, but it requires removing the EEPROM IC from the radio. That process is a very difficult thing to do for people who have no experience soldering and removing surface mounted components. Without the very best skills and experience doing this you would most likely destroy the circuit board, so this is not something that is a feasible thing for any body without those skills to do.

Try calling Kenwood customer service or their tech support, they will confirm what I have told you. There is no other solution, but you keep looking, one day you will realize that I am right because you will not find anyplace that can do it any other way.

So, I guess it is my fault that you have no remote and I must get a bad rating because you have no remote. I will remember this and never offer this solution to anybody else again.

Sorry that I took out my frustration on you over this. I have offered this solution to other people and some have rated it as FixYa! and a few have rated it lower. As it turns out, when somebody who has this problem doesn't have a remote, that's when they give a bad rating. Because it is not the answer they want. It is still the right answer, but since they have no remote, they shoot the messenger. Is that really fair?

Here's the wiring diagram for the DB245 - not from Clarion's site, but this is it...

If that link does not work, here's the page that should get you to it, but you need to provide a rating on the page before it activates the download link.

The picture wiring diagram is found on the right-hand side of Page 2

I have not been able to find this installation manual anywhere else(including Clarions site), so this is about your only option.

Pioneer dehp3100ub.stock speakers wont work with unit?

If the vehicle has a premium sound package - you need to use the remote wire to turn on the factiry amplifier.
If you want to use the power from the radio for the speakers, you must buy and install a factory amplifier bypass harness.

I am posting the procedure for clearing the security code below. You must have the remote to clear the code, there is no other way to do this. If you do not have a remote, maybe you can borrow one from somebody. If not, you will need to take it to an authorized Kenwood service center and they can do it for a small fee of around $25 (that's what my shop charges).

If you can not read this very well, let me know and I will type out the instructions for you.

If you have found this information helpful, a "FixYa!" rating would be appropriate and very mcu appreciated. After all, it is the only reward we get for offering people like yourself this free help.

Thanks, and let me know if you need any more help.

Auto decks and speakers

That's a 200W total output, which in a four-speaker system means 50W to each speaker. Keep in mind that this is a peak output, not a continuous power output. When you shop for amps or head units, pay more attention to the RMS rating (most of the better brands will give you both). This is the amount of power the unit puts out continuously. The peak power rating is how much it can put out in a burst. Similarly for speakers, buy based on the RMS rating more than the peak rating - you want to know how much power you can safely pump into the speakers continuously - the RMS rating will give that to you.

By definition, RMS value would be (peak rating) x(.707) but for ease of use, look at a peak value and figure on an RMS (continuous) rating of about half that - it allows you to err on the side of caution.

For what it's worth, 25W continuous to each speaker may not seem like much, but a lot of factory stereo systems put 15W or less to each speaker. 25W by comparison is a significant step up.

Cd's won't play!!

You can try just one more thing to see if it helps. Use a cleaning disc to clean the lens. You run it for about 20 or 30 seconds and it brushes off any dust or the like from the lens. If that does not work you have a problem with the laser or the servo circuit that can only be repaired by a professional technician.

If it is under warranty contact Dual to find an authorized repair center or the address to send it to for repair. If it is not under warranty they can still tell you where you can get it repaired.

I have been working at authorized service centers for many manufacters for over 17 years, but have never seen anyplace authorized for "Dual" car audio. So you may find it very difficult to get it repaired.

If the laser is bad, the repair may cost around $125 to $150 depending on the cost of the new laser and the labor rates of the service center. The laser is the most common problem with all CD players, car or home.

If you have found this information to be helpful a good rating like "FixYa" or "Helpful" would be appreciated. The other two ratings are actually bad ratings.

Thanks, and let me know if you need any more help.

How to tag a HD song

I am not sure if I understand your question right. Are you asking how you can put a tag on a song?

If so, that is not possible.

The tag function on this radio only displays the tag information when playing a cd with mp3 or wma files. Check page 13 of the instruction manual with the link at the bottom of this post.

You need acrobat reader from adobe to read it. You can get a free acrobat reader here: :

Here is the link for the instruction manual from JVC

Please give me a good rating if you find this was helpful.
Let me know if you need any more help.
