Question about Toshiba Satellite Pro A210-EZ2202X Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba Satellite a210 keeps freezing up.

I have tried upgrading to 2G of memory, but it hasn't helped.l I have also tried the high performance power option, and running programs as Windows 2000. Still, things will work ok at first, and then it freezes up. any suggestions? It even happens during solitaire games, so it's not any particular program.

Barb, I have an A75 satellite and have similar problems. I have upgraded ram (corsair 2G) and also new hard drive now running XP pro. From what I have observed, the computer runs without problems anytime I use an external keyboard & mouse and freezes if I do not. While it doesn't freeze every time, it does it regularly, somewhere around 10% of the time. I have done the following; used it while wearing different footwear, shoes, tennis shoes, socks etc and noticed it freezes when I wear either tennis shoes or acrylic / nylon socks, it does NOT freeze when I am barefoot or have good shoes on, or when I use it on hard floors off of carpeted areas. I am certain my problem is related to static discharge and a poorly grounded front cover as the unit locks up the instant I rest my wrist on the front to start typing etc. This is a fairly well known problem with the satellite series and there are a number of fixes ranging from having the inside of the cover modified to be better grounded all the way up to replacing the cover with a newer type which apparently addresses the issue. Good luck.

My laptop is running slow

If your problem is that your computer is very slow and you have upgraded your memory to the maximum, then you should concentrate on cleaning up and optimising the Windows file system.

Download and install the following utility programs that can help you to improve the performance of your computer.

Advanced System Care Free - run the Deep Care option of this utility.
DiskMax - run a Detailed Scan and let it clean up all profiles, updates, cache etc.
Smart Defrag - run a Defrag and Fast Optimize
CCleaner - use this to compliment the above plus use the Tools Uninstall option to remove any unwanted software programs, browser tool bars etc. Also use the Tools Startup option to disable any of the programs being started on every boot that don't need to be, i.e. things like QuickTime, Adobe Reader etc.

One of the easiest methods of determining what memory your computer has and what upgrades you can install is to go to the Crucial Memory web site and use their Crucial System Scanner Tool, this will try to detect exactly what make and model your system is, and from this advise both what the currently installed memory is, and show compatible memory upgrades for your system.

Toshiba Satelite A150-S4184,Hasent been used much,It was verry fast, now have internet again and loads very slow and takes long time to load pages,I think auto downloads instales windows 7,What can I

How much memory do you have in your Toshiba Satelite laptop?
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 needs a minimum of 1GB but ideally would run better with 2GB.

Windows 7 would need the same but there is no auto-update process to go from XP to 7 as this is not allowed - you would have to do a Custom install of Windows 7 which requires a clean install (i.e. format the hard drive and start from scratch).

If you are running XP with less than 1GB memory, then you need to check what the maximum memory that the laptop can be upgraded to?

The easiest method is to use the Crucial Memory web site System Scanner utility which will detect how much memory is installed and advise how much you can upgrade to according to the options available for the specific make & model of laptop.

If the laptop hasn't been turned on or on-line for a long time then you may be using a lot of resources downloading Microsoft critical updates plus updates for other installed programs like iTunes, QuickTime, Java etc.

Try downloading and installing a copy of the free Advanced System Care 5 utility then running the Deep Care tools which include System Optimisation and clean-up utilities to improve system performance.

I feel like my computer is running slowly because I need more ram. I was wondering if that was the problem? And where good ideas to buy more would be?

You should try defragging your machine first. That is cheap. Look under start -> accessories -> system -> defragment. This will take a while but it will definintely improve things. You can also try programs like CCleaner to fix your registry (and defrag).

Memory is fairly cheap. Many places have a tool to tell you exactly the memory upgrades that you can perform. Crucial, New Egg, etc. will probe your machine or ask you information about the machine.

You might also want to check to see that your WIndows updates are up to date. You should also check your virus program.

I will recommend that you download and run the free Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It helps find issues with your computer’s hardware, devices that might affect installing Windows 7. Go to the Windows 7 Compatibility Center find direct links to drivers, updates, and downloads.

Add memory to HP/Compaq nc6000?

Yes you should increase the memory. XP runs suitably well at 512mb. At 1GIB it blazes.

The memory meter is pegged because it is having to use the Harddrive as ram (Swapfile) which is 1000x slower than RAM.

XP with nothing on it, straight from the factory will run with 256, but after 3-6 months of use, and adding applications it will get progressively slower.
