Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Help. I have an Averatec 2200 Series (mfg date 04/2005). When we play certain games, or use iTunes at the same time we're running a CD, the computer shuts off abruptly. There's no warning or error message. What could be causing this?

Game slowing down at random times

  • Many users while playing a game on there computer seem to notice that it slows down at random times throughout game-play, This common on most computer as users seem to forget about other applications running on there computer.
  • If your CPU is not fast enough and you are running many applications while your game is running you will notice the game isn't responding as fast as it should, The best way to solve this is disable all programs which you are not using including MSN messenger and any browser or File sharing/Torrent Application.
  • Also make sure your anti-virus is configured not to scan automatically otherwise it may start scanning while you are in game and cause dramatic lag, Most anti-virus's will provide an gamers profile which you can activate to prevent certain anti-virus features while you are playing your game.

Mfg date

Every Dell part has a label with a long serial number in the following format:
CC-PPPPPP-MMMM-DDD-SSSS

CC= 2 letters, country of origen (e,g, TH for Thailand, CN for China).
PPPPPP= 6 alphanumeric, Dell internal part number, most times starts with 0.
MMMMM= 5 numbers, Vendor ID.
DDD= Manufacturing date code
first digit= number, manufacturing year (e.g 8=2008, but on old stuff could be 1998)
second digit= alphanumeric, manufacturing month (1=January, 9=September, A=October, C=December)
Third digit= alphanumeric, manufacturing day of the month (1=1, 9=9, A=10, B=11,....and so on).
SSSS= 4 alphanumeric, serial number.

Not sure what date code you are looking at unless a "Plain Language Request" was made for that series in which case it would have been manufacturered 2020 - February (02) - 19th. Not a lot of these and I have never seen them on Dell but I guess anyting is possible

Try to work through the steps in this article. or this article.
If that doesn't help, here's a workaround that seems to help in some cases:
"Yea I have the blank screen too for my averatec 3200, but there's an easy work around
for some reason it default goes to the monitor port instead of the screen
all you do is press function screen( Fn F5) twice and you can see again. Whenever you see the blank screen pop up just change."
\
You might also google 'blank screen at logon' and check for other options, such as here.
If you get windows up, try this:
Run chkdsk c: /f or /r according to these instrucitons & these. (you can also run this from the recovery console or cd).
This could be the result of a driver conflict or issue. Run windows update and check for graphics updates, or follow these instructions to update your graphics/video drivers.
There's also the possibility that the problem is malware related, in which case try to follow these instructions.

Want to restore my computer back to factory settings and wipe my hard drive clean i am having to many problems wiht my computer i have a averatec 77100 series

Not sure which Windows version you have, ie. 98, XP, Vista...

Have you tried reinstalling or repairing Windows from your Windows installation CD?
Make you have the product key issued with CD otherwise you will not be able to reinstall.

Other options are:
Have you created a previous backup using a 3rd party backup software?
Have you created a startup disk?

You should conider any steps that enable you to reverse what you do.
