Question about Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
I have a panasonic 52" which was purchased in 1994 approx. recently after 30 minutes of viewing the picture jumps and is scrambled ./ does anyone out there know why this is happening before i get someone over to check it out.. cuz with these big screens it's almost impossible to bring them in for repair... thus the $$$$$ for some one to come over...
It's probably cap related... The +/- 30 or 12 volt lines feeding the tuner could be disrupted if a high esr cap is failing... ESR stand for equivilent series resistance and when a cap like that begins to fail it takes longer and longer to warm-up to its peak or in your case heats up beyond it's tolerance and fails to dissipate voltage at a correct rate affecting the circuit its in - in this case the tuner.
Not normally an expensive job but not one I'd want to do in-home. Good chance the tech will need to trace test the circuit with a scope anf ESR meter. Kinda like tearing an engine down to it's basic components if you know what I mean. You're better off taking the unit to them, saving the pickup delivery charges, and as always get an estimate in writing before any repairs are made over your okay amount...
Have a great day!
