Same exact problem. I just replaced my pressostat...

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2014

My Giotto Evolution is about 14 months old and over the past month is has become increasingly hard to produce consistent shots. This is my second machine in the past 12 years. Every morning I make two separate coffees using a ***** handle and a VST 15 gm bucket. The run rate is never consistent! I find I have to change the grind repeatedly to maintain the flow rate.
I have Mazza Mini stepless grinder and previously have never had to repeatedly change the grind to maintain the correct flow rate. I suspect this is a temperature/pressure problem. I have descaled the machine about 7 weeks ago, using a consumer descale product and the machine was stable for about two weeks after. Any suggestions.

Se my solution re no heat on page. pressostate or microswitch fail is easy to fix. many times the water tank is bebt out of shape with time. A twisted tank lift one side and tank is no longer resting on four points. This cause no contact with electrodes inside tank saying = no water = no power allowed. The GROUND must be established! A small piece of alu foil rolled to a ball will help to ground the electrode again. Lift the tank gently and find the two v - shaped contacts for the electrodes. Have also replaced the electronic box once :-( on friends ECM /// olev

I have a Giotto ECM esspresso machine. it is approximately 3 yrs old. recently when i turn the machine on, it starts heating up, but it doesn't create any pressure. any suggestions how to fix this problem.

1 solution is your vacuum breaker valve is sticking. Try opening the steam valve and see if you can start to heat again. If it does just, replace your vacuum breaker valve.

Air pressure excessive

that's a valve that's in line with the internal plumbing..that's all that restricts that pressure, which can build quite high.

can you provide the exact model number, please?

Have you checked the Thermostat on the unit in the tank if it is stuck it will cause the tank to over heat and pop off the steam valve?? there should be some resettable overheat protectors as well. Has the preassure relief valve been replaced as well??

I recently moved, and when I got situated, I simply added water to the tank, plugged it in, and turned it on. While warming up, the ususal hissing noise before the pressure and temperature starts building,...

The hising is your vacuum breaker not closing. Check you heating element with an ohms meter. It should read between 14 and 17 ohms. If you get a larger or no reading its your element. It needs to be replaced.

My 5 year old Giotto has stopped working

The vent valve on the machine is stuck in the open position. Turn on the machine and open the steam wand until you hear a hiss or see small water bubbles from nozzle, let it steam out a little more then close wand, that should allow the machine to heat up correctly, then order a new vent valve for the machine.

Hey! My ECM Giotto is building up too much pressure. 2+ bars. I tried resetting it but no lick. New thermostat?

The pressostat can be full of scale. You can remove it when the machine is cold descale it and also use a litle lubricate so the part can move more easily. You migh need a new mebrane since it might have be damage but if you dong have you can cut a plastic the same round shape of the mebrane and put the both back again so that no steam will escape from the mabrane.

Machine is on but no pressure and no attempt to make any

Open the top panel of the machine there is a small reset thermostat, that may have have tripped, push in to reset(sometimes reset is on the element).

Giotto pressure valve constantly on

You must have an internal leak and your machine will need to be serviced. If you can remove the top of the machine maybe you can see where the leak is coming from and may be able to repair the machine yourself.

Wet grounds

What you see is condensed stem comming out and no water. The pump is not sucking from the tank as ther is an air bubble in suction line. Still want coffe and don't want to clean your machine??? Flick up the lever with no group in place. Steam comes first then nothing. Pump is running and - voila - water comes as air bubble is gone. (Specially the first cup , never the following ones.) Now put back the group and brew your espresso. The machine is full of scale and neds total clean - by hand./// Olev
