Question about Hotpoint FFA70 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Hotpoint FFA70

Have recently had a problem with the drain on our fridge freezer Hotpoint FFA70. The drain from the fridge to the evaporator was blocked with ice so cleared the tube by defrosting and clearing with a stiff wire. Has been fine for two weeks and now has frozen blocked again. Any ideas.
Many Thanks.

I have same problem with drain from fridge and have tried clearing with wire.

The drain seems blocked as wire only goes down to about halfway behind the lower freezer compartment behind evaporator and I cannot find where tube either by internal or external rear examination of it.Does anybody know where the drain tube exits as I cannot find it also how to access it.

I have exactly same problem driving me mad.... HELP

In response to Eddie255, drain tube exits into condensate tray sitting on top of compressor. However I have same problem, wire will neither go up drain tube from bottom or down from drain hole. It feels as if the wire hits plastic, possible a bend in the tube. Will try pouring hot water down but on verge of buying new appliance.

My problem is the same but from reading the previous comments I think we are talking about the drain tube in the top unit, I have put a long piece of wire down (with the power off) it just hits a solid stop it does not come out anywere.

The top unit seems to be defrosting continually and creating water in by the two plastic baskets. When I increase the controls the water freezes. Further help required

This will work in most all cases of this type. You need a piece of copper wire, 14 guage, 12 to 16 inches. You can shortin it as you need to Turnoff the power to the fridge. Rap one end of the wire around the evaprorator heater and feed the othe end down the drain tube. This wire will heat up when the heater comes on and will supply heat down into the drain tube hopefully preventing the drain from freezing.

Diverter valve on Hotpoint FFA70 recieves no power, Fridge ok

Bonjour..Your system check (hot cold) is correct. Generally all new refrig/freezers cool only the freezer & bleed cold air off to cool the refrigerator. Most diverter/airflow dampers I have seen are mechanically operated for simplicity & to keep costs down. I would unload freezer and pull the panel off where you see the fan mounted. Go slow, don't drop any screws. You may not get them back. Look at the drain pan under the evap. coil. If it has ice that is built up in layers. Suspect the defrost termination thermostat. If the evap coil is clogged with heavy frost, suspect 1 the defrost timer and 2 the defrost heaters mounted on the evap. coil. Let me know how you make out.

Problem with fridge light on Hotpoint FFA70

Did you check the new lamp when you put it in? Did you keep the old lamp? It may well be the switch rather than the lamp itself. Check the lamp has continuity from the middle pin to the outer and the filament isn't broken

Water dripping to form puddle at bottom of fridge cabinet (upper, above freezer) on FFA70.Why is this, how can it be stopped? Thanks

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer or on floor
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

The hole in the back not letting water down i am getting pubble in my fridge

sounds like a clogged defrost drain tubing. in order for that meltwater to travel underneath the fridge and evaporate, it has to travel through a series of tubing devices. you have a clog somewhere in the tubes, so instead of underneath the fridge, the water collects inside or elsewhere. You will have to follow the path and determine where the clog is located. You can reply here or send me a question from my website:
