SOURCE: Wiring diagam for goodman heatpump

On your t-stat you have Y, W1, W2, R, O, G, B or C or X. Y is your cooling circuit and will be the same in the air handler and heat pump unit, use the yellow wire for this circuit. W1 and W2 are your back up elec. or gas heat. Depending on how many kws or heat strips you have and t-stat wires you will put the white wire to W1 in both the t-stat and air handler. W2 is for your second stage back up heat if air handler calls for it, this will be a tan or brown or black t-stat wire and goes to W2 on t-stat and air handler. R is half of your 24v control power from the transformer and is the red wire and goes to the t-stat, air handler, and heat pump. O is for the reversing valve in the heat pump that switches it from heating and cooling. You guessed it the orange wire connect to t-stat and heat pump. G is for the blower and is the green wire to the t-stat and air handler. B or C or X is known as the common which is the other half of control circuit from 24v transform it is the blue wire and goes to the t-stat, air handler, and heat pump.

SOURCE: wiring diagram for Rheem rpka-31 jaz heatpump

TURN THE POWER OFF TO THE UNIT. TAKE THE BACK PANEL OF OF THE HEAT PUMP AND LOOK FOR A SQUARE PLASTIC BAG FASTENED TO THE INSIDE OF THE UNIT, IT MAY BE LOCATED BY THE CONTACTS AND SYSTEM WIRING OR ON THE PANEL ITSELF. REMOVE THE PAPER FROM THE PLASTIC AND THIS SHOULD CONTAIN YOUR WIRING DIAGRAM. ALSO LOOK ON THE BACK OF THE PANEL ITSELF FOR THE DIAGRAM. SOMETIMES THE DIGRAM IS PRINTED THERE.

I have a White Rodgers 1F86-344 and I want to disable the wire for the Air Conditioner. I'm not sure which wire to disconnect for the ac unit only. Can someone assist me? I attached a diagram of the wiring

Without knowing how your controller is configured and what are the systems being controlled, it is a bit difficult to provide specific answers. In the appropriate configurations, the cooling system is controlled by the Y wire. I suggest you look at the wiring diagram for different configuration available at this site.

A full instruction manual is available at this site and provides different operational modes which may not require that you take out wires but you can isolate the control using the selector switches inside.

When working with the unit be mindful that full mains voltage is connected directly to it.

Can you bypass piggyback system if you want to just use heatpump. John

I'm assuuming you are talking about your furnace or 2nd. stage heat, when you say piggyback system. Yes you can go to your thermostat or furnace and disconnect just the 2nd. stage heat wire(see furnace wiring diagram), this will not allow the heat to come on in the furnace but it will still allow the indoor blower to run and the heat pump.

Disconnecting green wire from thermostate did allow furnace to run properly but every time I want to switch back to heatpump I must reconnect green wire again.Here is how wires are connected to...

Try this.

A T-stat.

Orange = O
Red = R (with existing jumper)
Black = C
Yellow = Y
White =W1 (Or AUG)
Green =G

At airhandler/furnace.

Green = blower wire (usually green, double check with schematic)
(Green should not go to the HP.)
Orange to HP
Red to red and to HP
black to blue (or C) and to HP
White to W
Yellow to HP. (It may also go to a "float switch" if installed. but that will just be a safety switch on the drain pan in case the line clogs and it overflows.)

The green is typically used for the blower motor. (furnace only)

The orange is used for the reversing valve. (changes from AC to heat, is located in the HP only)

Blue is typically used for common (or "C") but they may have changed it to black due to a broken wire, or other problems.

The only wires going to the HP should be
Red
Blue/black
orange
yellow

Orange should not be going to the furnace at all.

HP wiring should be
Orange to orange or O
Red to R or red
Blue/black to blue or C
Yellow to Y
