If this is an IBM Netvista you start the Bios by pressing the F1 key while the computer is starting up, press it many times as soom as you hear the computer startup beep.

Touchpad not active

Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard.

The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color.

Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.

The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.

Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.

Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works.

Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.

hope this helps

Installed a n68s mobo with a amd x2 550 CPU. Every turns o n except VGA mouse and keyboard

You should have a disk that came with the mobo. You will need to install the drivers for all of the onboard devices to function properly. If you have already done this, You will need to access th BIOS Setup utility (usually by pressing the F1 key while booting, although your mobo may use a different key) and make sure that you have all of the devices enabled in the setup. This should solve your troubles!

How to install

To install Windows place the Windows disc in the cD drive and turn the pc on. If nothing happens try pressing F1 2 F8 or F12 as the pc is starting these may open the BIOS and allow you to change it to BOOT from CD.
Restart and allow Windows to install from CD automatically. this will also work for PUPPYLINUX if you are trying to install that instead o expensive Windows.

If you want to install a program, then simply open its CD and find the file SETUP.exe or AUTORUN.exe and double click on them this should start the install process.

I am trying to restore an old IBM 2194 Model 18A. It seems to do the test of RAM but the hard drive does not light up (it does start running) and ther is a black screen on the monitor but it does turn the...

If the BIOS battery is a coin size battery 20mm dia.- type CR2032 then the BIOS battery voltage should be 3 volts.
Replace it with a new battery and configure the BIOS with Date and Time etc.

Where do i find out what the F1-F12 keys mean on

usually they are there for bot up purposes. depending on the manufacturer of the computer and motherboard they do different things. you don't use them in day to day computing.

Cant boot from cd rom ? how do i access the bios

There are several ways to access the BIOS. Usually the Delete key at boot up (just hit it repeatedly when you start seeing stuff) or the F1 key is also a popular method of accessing BIOS. Another option on things like HP is to hit the "F10" or "F12" key. One of these should work for you. Don't wait until you see the Windows "Splash" screen or you've waited too long. Sometimes you may have to wait for it to boot up and then restart, especially if you have a CRT monitor instead of an LCD as it can take awhile for a CRT to "warm up" and start displaying.

How do i reinstall my operating system on an old ibm netvista i am wanting to give away - but want to reinstall/clean first?

The best way to clean a disk free of data is to use fdisk. Click on start>run>type in cmd in the box. This will bring you to the DOS prompt type in fdisk. Then say yes to all the questions.
In order to reinstalll you need to change your BIOs to be able to start with your CD ROM instead of your hard disk. Each manufacturer is different on how to get there. When you start your computer look for a line saying press F something to get to setup. Once in set upp find you boot structure and change it to start with the CD ROM first. If you have any questions let me know.
