My heating element will not shut off when the motor is not running. Opening the door also does not shut the heating elemnt off. If I manually move the timer to the off postiiong then then the heating element will shut off. Also when I move the timer to a position such as cool down the heating element will shut off. But in the normal heating mode. I can open the door, the motor stops but the heating element remains on. Measured the resistance between heating element terminal and the housing at it is at 5 oms. So do I have a short to ground. If so why does the timer settings described above affect anyting? Help please and Thanks

if the dryer worked fine before with the element not staying on when you open the door, etc, then what you have done is a very common mistake to make, you must have dislodged a wire off, or maybe placed one back in the wrong place, its a very easy error to make, which is why when removing parts for repair on any appliance you must make very detailed notes, better still take digital photographs with a digital camera double check any wires etc, don't worry i am a retired appliance engineer and even we can make this mistake

possibly something grounding the element to the housing. what brand of dryer do you have? GE/Hotpoint dryers are good at allowing things like underwires from a bra to get into the element area and ground out the element. or possibly the element has broken and the broken end has fallen against the housing. hope this helps
SOURCE: dryer spins but no heat
Did you check the power coard where it connects to the dryer? Start at the source. Make sure that you have at least 110v on each line. The dryer will tumble on 110v but requires 220v to heat. If you have 220v then check the t-stat and thermal cut-out on the blower. Check all wires for loose or burnt terminals. If all that is good it may be a bad motor or timer/control. I'm happy that you have a meter.
Good luck.

your timer is bad,the cost of a timer is close to a new dryer.

Did you figure out what you needed to replace? I have the same problem and would rather not order the timer unless I need to. I'm currently in the process of replacing most of the thermostats as they are pretty cheap on amazon.
