Question about Sony HMD A400/L (Blue, Silver) 19 in.CRT Conventional Monitor
I have a sony HMD-A400 CRT Monitor , It will shut down and go in to standby mode when ever it pleases, I sent it to sony a year ago and they said it was a cooked wire, they fixed it at no charge and sent it back to me.
also from a cold boot the monitor turns red, gold, green, and when
the picture come up it looks blurry and not so clear but it work fine after that, this stuff started about a year after I bought it, I would love to get it fix someway, or is it on it's way out, this thing cost alot of money and sony won't do any thing but charge me a lot of money to get it fixed, they said to trash it, I think sony is crazy, because I didn't play football with it, it's a computer !! can any one help, I really like this monitor a lot and want to keep it, I have another HMD 17'' that works
great and is older than the 19'' which was the new add on to my system. Please help, everybody runs when I say can you FIX this

When the screen turns black again take a flashlight and shine it in the bottom left hand corner where the Windows Start button is located. If you can see a faint image then your back light is failing. If that?s not the case the next step would be to attach another monitor to your computer to see if the problem disappears. If it does that points to the monitor, if it doesn?t then we need to take a look at the computer itself. Let us know what you find out and please don?t forget to rate this posting.

SOURCE: Sony SDM-HS73 Not Staying On
The problem is with power inverter, usually the capacitors go bad and need to changed, they might be bulged and or leaking. Very cheap fix, less than a buck apiece and an hour with a solder iron. Google it to find more info.

CRT shorts are common with this model and focus problems are a major symptom. however, the loud 'pop' you described leads me to believe that the flyback transformer may have a problem in the focus divider portion. replace the flyback, if that fails then the CRT is most certainly the problem
