Question about Toshiba Satellite A205-S4617 Notebook

1 Answer

Beeping then shuts down.

I have a Satellite M65 laptop. After about ten minutes of running, it starts to beep for about 2 minutes and then shuts off. Though it was the cooling fan failure but I can hear it running on low speed when it starts to beep. The cooling fan does not switch to high like it used to do.
When starting up the laptop, the fan runs in a self check mode and the the fan comes on high.
I found a updated BIOS for it and ran that. It work for awhile (about a week) then went right back to the beeping. Any idea because I'm out!

Hi Speedport!

This isn't something as simple as a dead / broken / malfuctioning battery is it ? Try removing your battery, plugging the laptop into the mains and running it idle. The Bios update you found may have been a coincedence...

No I mean completely remove the battery from the laptop casing, and just power the laptop via the mains cable... any change in laptop behavour doing this ?

It might be a problematic battery that is causing the laptop to think that it is discharged, and thus shut down. You may need a new one if removing the battery and running the laptop purely from mains is successful.

Laptop beeps then shuts down

Wouldn't it be a problem generated by excessive heat? Check the temperature inside the laptop, and also if the fan is workin properly. Also dust in front of heatsink can prevent appropriate cooling.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing the beep code. It means that its a problem with the Video Card and Video Cards are usually buit-in to the Motherboard for laptops. The only way to fix it to replace the Motherboard in order to get the new Video Card. Hope I've helped you somehow.
