Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder...memory full problem

I have a Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder.
The recorder has 5 empty folders but will not let me record.  The recorder responds w/ "Memory Full" when I attempt to record.
I've successfully used this recorder for approx 2 months...recording, moving recorded files to iTunes, etc.  The folders are empty...no files present.
There doesn't appear to be a way to reset or reformat the device.
Any suggestions??

I have the same problem. Despite having no files on the recorder, it still says "memory full" after recording for about 15 seconds. I then shifted to a lower-memory setting and it said it could only record for five minutes. I have no idea how to fix it. Any suggestions?

SUCCESS!  Go to "Detail Menu" (at the bottom of the Menu options), press enter and choose "Format". This will reformat the device and restore your memory.  I did this and my problem is solved.  Good luck!

Mine is doing the same thing. It is infuriating. I realize that I can reformat it but if I already have files on it (from the class right before) and can't get to my computer to transfer it, then those files are erased aren't they?

I deleted files by dragging them into the bin on a mac.
So the files aren't present on the recorder, but the space is still taken up.
I need to reformat it, but haven't worked out how.

If you press and hold down the "menu" button scroll down to the FORMAT selection and press enter. This will reformat the device.
I had the same problem - I think it arose after disconnecting the IC Recorder when it became unresponsive with the computer.
Make sure you transfer all your files first to a computer or back up source.

SOURCE: Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder...memory full problem

I solved the problem by connecting my Sony IC Recorder to the USB port on my McBook Pro computer and then emptying the trash can on the Mac computer. Visually (flashing red indicator light) and audibly (the recorder's sound that indicates something being erased), it was clear that mp3 files were finally, really being erased on the Sony recorder even though the recorder's own screen display had previously shown only empty folders and no files. Dragging files to the trash can doesn't really erase them unless you also empty the trash. All dragging to the trash can does is somehow mark the files in a way that, unfortunately, makes them invisible to Sony's file detection system.

Here are some recovery software you may rely on. Both programs can recover photos, videos and audio.

Photo Video Audio Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Video Audio Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your items are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the device in case the original files(your audios) are overwritten.

You need to have it connected to your Mac and then empty your Trash (on the Mac) to clear the memory on the dictaphone.

Sony ICD-UX70 Voice Recorder freezes when load bar gets near end.

The same problem happened on mine twice. I just had to change the batteries, turn DPC off, and play with the buttons, press STOP, PLAY and STOP until the freezing has stopped. Then it will prompt you to set the time and date. Hope that helps :)
