Does the amp have a volt meter on it? That tends to be pretty helpful in determining if it has enough power. I had to run an 8 gauge wire from my battery to the amp to get enough current to power an audiobahn 6 channel 6601t, with a dual voice-coil audiobahn 12 inch eternal. In the summer mine hits a thermal protection unitl I roll down the windows and ventilate the car, but that does not sound like thermal to me. It could also be the wrong impedance for your amp/sub combo. If you are making these speakers distort, you should be deaf by now. a 1000 watt amp is no force to be reckoned with. Your sub is 1.5 to 4 ohms. I posted a link to where you can check if it is wired properly. If these are distorting, it sounds like you have these wired for the wrong impedance. There is no way you should be making this setup distort at all without blowing out windows. It could be that you need 2 batteries, or if you are a pro DIYer Get some A123 batteries from a dewalt product. They have insane discharge. But I would recommend just getting a new battery (see bottom link), and making sure you have a 4-8 gauge wire going to the amp. I know a lot about batteries, as I built my own EV, so tell me how you have these subs wired, and how you have the amp wired to the battery.

Jl 1000/1 goes into protective mode with low frequency

Do you have a capacitor????? If not, when its up loud and hitting hard it might be going into protection because of a voltage sag....If it goes below 11.8v they will usually do that.....Get a multi meter and put on the hot and ground of your amp when its playing loud and see what the voltage is dropping to.....If its going below 12v, thats your remedy...gd luck....

I have a jl 1000/1 amp hooke up to 2 12 w6 subs and when i turn the volume up half way the speakers cut out and amp stops working but i turn the volume back down and it works fine. what could this be?...

what is happening is the amp is going into protect mode because it most likely is at the wrong oms and is getting over loaded and shutting itself down to protect it self!

do you know what ohm load you are presenting to the amp? or what ohm are the subs ?

if you correct the ohm load it will fix your issue and make the system sound way better! let me know if you have any more question and let me know about the ohms! good luck

Trouble with jl amp

well start with. turn your hi pass completely off. Turn your bass boost completely off. Turn your input gain copletely down. and turn your cd player to about 3/4 of what you listen to it at. Then turn your input up until it starts to sound a little dirty(distortion) then turn it down a notch. set it at a 80 herz filter so it allows nothing over 80 herz to come through. I just installed one of these jl amps a week ago. 1400.1 and it made two kicker cvt's sound amazing just have to set it just exactly like i told you. it will hit tight as hell and loud and it will hit all frequencies way better.

Goes into protect mode

Your amplifier is trying to draw too much current. Your battery doesnt have enough power to run the subwoofers. My solution to the problem would be buying a power cap with equal or more power capasity to your current amplifier. The power cap stores a high amount of current so that when your subwoofers hit those low notes that draw a lot of current, instead of taking it directly from your battery, it will use the stored current from the powercap and wont go into protect mode. Also make sure that your connections on the back of the subwoofer arent touching. If you are hitting hard bass notes and the speaker (+) and (-) wires touch, it will short out and go into protect mode. But I dont think this is what your problem is. I am 99% sure if you go with the powercap, it will solve your problem.

Blue low voltage light

You most likely need a bigger alt. The low voltage light comes on simply because your alt. isn't producing enough to feed the demand.
