Scanner won't turn on

I have an epson expression 1680 scanner. we use it to scan xrays in our pediatric dental office. this morning it just won't power on. i've done everything. unplug - leave unplugged - reset the surge power strip - change outlets - other things are plugged in they are fine - nothing is working. does this mean i just need a new one?

Hi,
Try to test the power cord of the scanner (cable from scanner to outlet) using multitester if there is an electricity or if you have extra power cord test it. Maybe that's the defect. If that's not the problem it is now the scanner itself, have it for the repair man or technician.
Thanks

I am using the Epson Perfection V700 photo scanner to scan dental xrays. Sometimes the xrays come out perfect, other times I get streaks across the image. Sometimes the streaks are colored, othertimes...

You have to use the "FILM AREA GUIDE" included with the scanner. This black plastic guide leaves a small area at the top of the glass open so that the scanner can calibrate itself at the start of each scan. Use the guide or leave at least 8mm between the top of your film and the top of the scanner glass.

I am looking for a scanner with a transparency adapter that will allow me to scan in some dental cephalometric xrays that measure about 8"x10"

Well this scanner is not the one you want.

Depending on your desired resolution, any flatbed that accepts 8x10's
might work. I don't know if the resolution would be up to snuff.

I've thought about this with 35mm slides, but just haven't done it yet. (I would use a different scanner though)

Door/Hinge is very tight, have to push down hard when scanning

Remove the transparency unit from the scanner. Then carefully remove the six screws holding the hinge. Use WD 40 to lubricate hinge.

Clean the glass surface with Iso propyl alcohol (Industrial grade is enough). Dont use any solvent. Just for immediate usage, you can use your aftershave and clean. Clen with a soft cloth.

Epson Expression 1680

Hi-

Do you have any existing drivers for new epson scanners( models), if you have then there are compatibility issues between new drivers and old drivers, are you using a leopard 10.5 operating system or tiger 10.4.**? try uninstalling every epson info from applications folder and from library/image capture and library/preferences. you an use the finder to search for epson scan and drg them all to trash. Try using image capture application as well if it will scan when you run it, then reinstall driver.

One more thing, when you click on epson scan, does it bounce continouosly from the dock? if it is then look for a subfolder and install everything in it.

Keep me posted, thanks!

Xrays

You can't scan xrays unless you have a scanner capable of scanning film, which requires a film attachment.

Communication with scanner

You could take it apart and see if you can lubricate the shaft the the scanner sits on with some vasoline. If that doesn't it could be that the stepper motor that controls the scanner is going bad in it.
