Question about Zenith Z50PX2D 50 in. Plasma HDTV

Need a Zenith Z42PX2d Y Sustain Circuit Board

My repair guys wants to charge me for this circuit board and two other buffer boards that have nothing wrong with them because that's the way zenith sells them, as a unit. Where can I purchase only the bad circuit board?

This is a common problem with these TVs. You can download the official Sanyo repair manual for this TV (DP42746) at http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/43343/sanyo_dp42746.html. I uploaded it here when I had the same issue with my TV last year. The solution is almost always to replace the Power Board (Y-Main) and the Upper and Lower Y Buffers. The parts and costs (from Sanyo in July 2009) are listed below (NOTE: Sanyo will not ship these parts to anyone but a repair shop): 1. V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01200A, Alt Part # LJ41-02759A) - USD $139.00
2. Upper Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01202A, Alt Part # LJ41-02760) - USD $64.00
3. Lower Y-Buffer Circuit Board (Part # LJ92-01203A, Alt Part # LJ41-02761A) - USD $64.00
Sanyo charges USD $10.50 for shipping, which brings the total cost for parts to USD $277.50. From my research, a shop would probably charge between USD $500 and $700 to do this repair. FYI - there is a class action lawsuit pending against Sanyo for this issue. The V4 Y-Main (Y-Sustain) Circuit Boards fail VERY frequently in this TV due to overheating. Hope this helps.

Short circuit on the "Y" sustain board

The problem is heat!!! If the tv has fans they should be checked for normal operation, although on the early samsung models there were none, and the problem is that the panel drive buffers are getting to hot due to inadequate cooling. This is most apperent when tv is mounted to close to the wall, also external fan blowing on the rear left side will dissapate the heat. It is a problem on early Samsung and Electrograph 42 " plasma models. Hope this helps.

HDTV was ruuning & then popped. Then nothing

This is a common problem on these plasma TV's. The problem resides inthe high voltage boards known as the X and Y Sustain boards.. You canpurchase them here for a very reasonable price:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/Y-SUSTAIN-FOR-42-PLASMA-TV-PN-6871QYH036A-p/sku9510.htm

The above link is to a Y-SUS board. The X-Sus board is often the 2nd cause of failure and can be found here:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/X-SUSTAIN-6871QZH041B-6870QZE017D-6871QZH052D-p/sku9509.htm

Totest which board is failing, you need to check voltage input to theYSUS board first... Input should be 120V from Power supply, outputshould be above 250V.. Do this test with XSUS disconnected. IF 250+Vexists, then XSUS is damaged. If not, then the YSUS is the faulty part.

On my Zenith Plasma model #Z42PX2D, when we turn the power on (via remote or manually), a yellow light flashes then stays a solid yellow. No sound, no picture, no green solid light like we used to get. ...

i am going to make a guess here , so if i am wrong please do not rate me low . it will hurt me . : my guess is you do not have electronic tools or electronic training ? if not theres not a lot you can do , the light on yellow says when the set checked itself out something is wrong . it will need a board or two .but you need the test equipment to go through the set and find out why . i never guess . if you guess your wrong more than your right and the boards in this set are big bucks rangeing from 80.00 to over 700.00 . so i never guess , and you should not eather . if you have a scope and trvm and know how to use them , great , i can help you troubleshoot . just let me know

I know it's rather late to post this but just thought I'd post anyway, maybe you still need the help. If you get no sound and no picture but yet an amber light (yellow) also if you heard a pop sound from one of the fuses, there is a good chance that you YSUS board has take a turn for the worst. There are kits that you can purchase for $200+/- that will get you back up and going....for 5 more years.
