Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook
I have a HP dv1029 (part of the dv1000 series) and have a problem with the fan for which I'd really appreciate your input.
For the past few months, the fan noise has been been getting noisier than normal...and then finally the fan wasn't turning on all the time and the unit started overheating .
After Googling the issue, a couple of weeks back I took it into the service centre. They took it apart and gave it a good clean, mentioned that there was had been alot of dust accumulation and that it now no longer overheated.
However I'm now noticing that the fan is still often not swtiching on...although the unit has NOT been overheating and switching itself off as it had been before the repair - and i've been leaving it on all night at times.
Interestingly, when i turn the unit over and gently (through the grill) touch/prod the fan with a toothpick, it then begins to function again. Though this usually only lasts for an hour or so before slowly stoppping again.
I assume the bearings on the fan have gone or the fan as a whole needs to just be replaced.
My question is this...
Should I go and buy just a new fan...or a fan AND heat-sink unit? Looking at HP's part's lists, they appear to be two different units.
I'm not confident enough to take my unit apart and do the repair myself...but I do wish to save unecessary repair time by my technician. (HP's Spare Parts Centre is just near my home.)
Thanks in advance for your help and any general suggestions.
Why dont you try to use little bit of spirit or petrol and clean the dust properly by brush. And than check it. and during this cleaning process kindly keep system off and when you clean it and spirit or petrol disappear completely than start the laptop and check it.
