well what happened was, i didnt realise i had to put the cd thingy in before the webcam, so i dont kno if that makes a difference... but its really confusing. i press to go onto lifecam and it says

"plug ur lifecam into usb port, and then adjust the audio and video settings. On the Lifecam menu, click audio settings. In the wizard, select a microphone and microsoft webcam."

You installed the software as instructed? Sometimes USB devices need software installed before plugging in the USB cable.

Yeah ricky is right you have to install the software before you plug the cam in so then windows is able to pick up the drivers and install them

Hi, my macbook camera broke (built in) so i recently purchased a JC-AM800 clip on JWIN for my macbook. When i go to video chat, it still says a camera isnt connected even though i have my camera plugged...

This camera is not plug and play, meaning it won't work by just being plugged into the USB port. You need to install the drivers which you can download from the jWin website here: http://www.jwin.com/support.asp?type=6&idx=7723.
From what I can tell, the driver is an .exe file so it's only compatible with Windows.

I just got a web cam and im not sure how to use it. my computer says device not recognized.

This is the kind of error message you get when you plug it into a port that cannot handle the speed of the webcam.
All you need to do is to try connecting it to all the ports one after the other and you would get it right. If you can get the USB 2.0 port on your computer, all you need to do is to plug it to that port and your problem should be solved.
Hope this helped you? Please comment for more information

My webcam is not recognized and I get a message that says that the camera is not turned on. I cannot find the device in my device manager in order to repair it and the driver. I need help! I can be...

You should first verify that the USB port can recognize a USB memory stick i.e. verify that the USB port hardware is working. If its is not, use Device Manager to reload the USB Host Adapter drivers.

If this is an external USB device (laptop or desktop) ...

the Device Manager will always locate the camera, if only as an Other Device or sometimes with the wrong driver in another device class. One possibility, if the host PC is a laptop, is check the Power Scheme. Set this to Always On, as this is supposed to (but not always..) stop Windows from turning off external interfaces (such as USB) to conserve power.

Check if the camera will appear in Device Manager on another PC. This will verify that the camera hardware is functional.

If this is a laptop built-in WebCam, it will usually appear in Device Manager under Imaging Devices. If it does not, I'd suspect that the camera hardware has a problem.

Let's assume that this is an external USB Camera. When the camera driver is loaded, the driver INF file is copied to a new file

C:\Windows\inf\oem.inf where is an arbitrary number.

When you plug in the camera, Windows PlugandPlay looks in C:\Windows\inf for the correct driver to assign to the device.

Windows can get confused about drivers, esspecially if you have attempted to reload the driver, or load a newer version.

If you do a search for all C:\Windows\inf\oem*.inf containing "Toshiba" or "WebCam" you should be able to locate one or more oem*.inf files that is the installed driver for your webcam.

Lets say this file is oem31.inf Delete this file and also oem31.pnf if its present.

This removes the last driver that was installed. Now, run Device Manager, and plug in the camera. If Device Manager can locate the camera (as an Other Device to start with), you should be able to reload the correct driver, either from the installed driver directory (if there is one) or from you camera CD.

Cant connect to lifecam

There may be a clash between lifecam and MSN. close MSN and alll other IMs. uninstall lifecam. restart the PC, install webcam SW with the cam unplugged. After installation plug the cam ina USB port and let Windows read the drivers and install the cam, Once that is done, now you can configure the cam in your IMs one by one.

How do i fix my webcam?

Try plugging it into a different USB port, that will force the driver to re-load. If that doesn't work, try completely uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it. Press the windows key + pause/break simultaneously, then go to Hardware > device manager. If you see your camera listed there, right click on it and click "uninstall" confirm yes, then download the driver from the manufacturer's website and reinstall it. You may have to reboot the computer afterwards.

Webcam help

Check that your usb ports are functional by plugging in another known good working device, mouse, etc. Most devices want you to install the CD before you connect the hardware. When it's asking you for the drivers, be sure you point it manually to the folder on the disk with the .INF files. The INF file tells the computer what DLL and System files to load to use your device. Check under the Device manager to see that the device is installed all the way or if it has a question mark on it saying something is wrong.
