Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

Ps3 updates causing disk error

Hi there. last week i was installing latest update on ps3 i left the ps3 to it and went out , when i came back it was saying internet connection was interrupted. Now ps3 will start up ( if I leave it long enough ) for just a few min's then freeze and the screen becomes blockey and pixilated . I have contacted sony and they looked at it on-line and decided that it is a disk error and there is nothing I can do except swap it with Sony for another machine. I am reluctant to do this as I have a 60gb machine that plays ps2&1 games. Someone mentioned if I pop the hard drive into another ps3 it will re-format my H/D and this may work I'm not so sure what do you think ?

Thank you Michael

Poppin it into another machine will do nothing. its the drive thats bad, not the machine.
U can buy another drive if u wish as they are not that expensive and worth it and u will still play ps2 games on it as the HD has nothing to do with backwards compatibilty.

u can buy a 160 gig drive for around $100 sometimes less and in ur ps3 manual it tells u how to replace it.

No problem, and so u know, a HD is basically a big *** memory card, and as far as i know, if u send it to sony for repairs, chances are good they just send a a diff machine thats refurbished, so u may lose backwards compatibilty. And u have to remove ur hard drive before sending it in for repairs, check ur manual.

Replacement HD is somewhat simple enough and i would immagine u could do it in under 30 mins.
    Good luck.
In case ur wonderin, PS3's use SEAGATE hard drives, but any hard drive should do it.

I have a 60gb Phat Ps3. I recently went to update it to the latest firmware and it downloaded the update fine and was running normally. Then as it was installing the update, the system shut itself off...

Hello there vincent

If you have the red blinking light then you have the RED light of death AKA the RLOD.

The light is a warning sign to let you know something is wrong. I can give you the quick explanation, There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose connection with the motherboard and you get the RLOD.

WHERE TO GO FROM HERE

Option 1 - Call Sony

In warranty the Price is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150, the whole process is 4-6 weeks

You can call Sony and they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back to you

Option 2 - Fix it your Self

You can use a PS3 fix manual to get this fixed easily and at home using household tools you probably already own.

Click Here For The PS3 Manual which has helped so many people like you.

Good luck

Best regards

Peter

I cant update, keep getting error code 8002f994,can you give me a solution?...

Your Playstation error code (8002f994) means that too many people are currently downloading the update. I suggest you to update it later.

I hope it works! If not, please leave a reply.

Have a nice day!

Since the last update on sept 21 i cant sign in to the playstation network and get error codes of 80710102 and 80023017.it was working fine til the update

There has been a problem with the latest Sony update, it unfortunately is causing people to be unable to log into thier Playstation Network accounts. Sony are working on a fix and will hopefully have it sorted very soon.

Hope this helps

PS3 - Game crash followed by disc read error

The update corrupted your hard drive that's why it's not loading any disc.Yes,Restoring the system will work but it will destroy all your saved game data.Updating the system will not remove the hard disk defect. There is only one solution,Reset it.

Carried out an update, but now stuck in loop

Procedure for Entering Safe mode when PS3 is caught in update loop:

When you first turn on the PS3, it will not allow you to go into Safe mode. You must prepare it for this.

link for flash drive prep:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3/pc_update.html#update_PC

(This will not work for the drive that currently is caught in the update loop. You must take the hard drive out of the PS3 and temporarily replace it with another 2.5” SATA drive. Note: temp drive may need to be initialized… Connect drive to pc, right click on My Computer and select Manage… Then select disk Management… you will then be presented with a dialogue box that will assist in initializing the disk.. However, only initialize it… Do Not Format it!(waste of time) Once the disk is initialized disconnect it from external enclosure or shut down computer and remove disk)

From the top:

1.) Plug in PS3 and flip switch in back of PS3 to on. Red LED in front of PS3 should light up. Also, plug in Controller at this point.
2.) Hold finger to I/O button on front of PS3 – Green LED lights up
a. You will hear one beep, then another single beep, then a final beep and the PS3 will power off again and Red LED will be on
3.) Hold finger to I/O button on front of PS3 – Green LED lights up
a. You will hear one beep, then another single beep, then two beeps
4.) As soon as you hear the two beeps, hold PS button on Controller
a. You will then be presented with an options screen
i. Restart System -- leads back to update loop
ii. Restore Default Settings --
iii. Restore File System -- leads back to update loop (8002F14E)
iv. Rebuild Database --
v. Restore PS3 System --
vi. System Update -- will cause error
5.) You will then remove the temporary SATA drive from the PS3 and replace it with the hard drive that is caught in the update loo
6.) I am currently stuck attempting to Restore Default Settings and Im sure it will end in error, but i have to try all possible solutions.

My ps3 games wont load after update 2.70

Yes, there have been many ps3's that have gone bad after the firmware update.

You are unable to play your discs because the Blu-Ray Lens that enables the PS3 to read Blu-Ray movies or games has gone bad.

There is nothing you can do about it. You need to take it to an authorized Sony Service Center and get the lens replaced.

Hi, I got my ps3 about 2 weeks and it worked fine until last night. It's not recognizing and loading any sort of cd I'm putting in, whether it be a game or dvd.I think my kid may have changed some settings...

A PS3 dose not have settings affecting the performance. Your PS3 should still be under warrenty, so if it dosn't work, just take it back and get a new one. If you want and your willing to take the risk, you can.
Take the system apart and wipe off the lense that scans the cds, or you could just if the system can't read any disks, then connect it to the internet and look for the latest updates, and you could do this by going into the "System Update" program.

Try to update to the latest PS3 drivers to see if that fixes the issue. Here's the site: http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/network/updates?DCMP=ILC-PS3_1304&LINK=PS3SU
