My 50 inch Philips Plasma TV is normally connected to a Virgin Media HD Box in order to watch TV programmes. Tonight my TV is showing a box that is called Information, and it has the wording No signal or...

Unplug both the set and box from power for a while--either may have caused a glitch---power both back with everything already connected and see if the reboot that will happen helps or not--a lot of times the box causes this by confusing the set it is connected to.

Manual switch ok but remote not fundtion sharo tv

Be assured that fault does not lie with the remote handset itself. In that case repair or replace it.Remote control system has two parts. One is the remote hand set and the other lies within the TV or other device for which remote controller is being used. The hand set transmits commands in shape of singnals of particular frequency and pulses per second depending on the key pressed. The other part of the remote system lying within the TV receives, decodes and responds according to the commands received in shape of signals of particular frequency and pulses of paricular width and sequence. The remote controller uses invisible infra red light as the carrier of the signal. As the light moves in straight path, no obstacles should block straight line of sight path between the remote hand set (the transmitter) and IR sensor window (part of the receiver). Hence remove the blockage from the front side of the TV.Check if the IR sensor is not defective. Check if the associated circuit and components inside the TV are not defective.Check if the TV has any switch for selecting only manual mode and locking the remote mode.Hope, some sytematic exercise will bear the successful result.

Westinghouse tv turns off with rmote but cannot be turned on unless button on tv itself is used

How old are the batteries in the remotes? The on/off signal from the remote is the same. There is some lattitude in the IR reciever module for what it accepts. Low battereis may be shifting the signal's frequency or light intensity enough for it to not be recognized.

If sunlight is failing on the sensor or the remote's IR emitter, that can cause interference. Other IR devices can also interfere with the IR signal such as a "Remote Extender" being used for something else.

It may sound odd, but if your remote was working one day and not the next- was the room rearranged? If so, look around for possible sources of interference blocking the beam from the remote, or shining or reflecting light onto the IR reciever module in the set.

Remote control stopped working so i purchased a new remote control that doesnt work so now i am presuming it is the tv sensor itself

Brand of the TV? Yes it can be the IR receiver or the REMOTE switching jack if it has one in the back of the TV.

1) Test the remote:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.

2) If the remote checked out OK, then look at the back of the TV for the "REMOTE INPUT", use a mini-phone plug and insert the plug ino the remote input jack in and out a couple times to clean the switch contacts that select between the front IR receiver of the TV or the rear panel IR input jacks.

My lg doesn't work with any remotes! I checked my lg remote - put in new batteries (correctly) - and no change. I reconfigured my directv remote & nothing happened. At this time I have to turn tv on...

This TV may have IR remote input jack in the back (the size of small headphone jack), when the external remote receiver is used, it will shutoff the remote receiver in the front of the TV, this jack has a switch inside which can get corroded if its contacts are not activated once in awhile. You can plug in a small headphone plug into it a couple of times to see if the remote will work again.

And here is how to test the remote to see if it still putting out the IR signals.
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. Plase post back.

TV Volume turns down by itself - Philips 29PT8319 Matchline 27"

Most likely the volume down button on the front of the TV or the switch that it activates is sticking. Should be an easy fix otherwise.
