Unfortunately, the EWR20V5 does not handle DVD +R or DVD +RW discs for recording. It can play back some of these discs, when recorded and finalized on another recording device. However, it may not recognize some DVD +R/+RW discs at all. This recorder recognizes all DVD -R/-RW discs. This is a common manufacturing design for DVD/VCR recorders.

Seems like Polaroid's drivers are having problems with a lot of people. The fixya link below from 2011 recommends just using an audio cable and the Audacity program to transfer the sound from the device.

You are going to need a special sound card with an input either MIDI or line in audio. Then you will use a Digital Recorder Software program like Propeller Head Reason. Which will produce the sound recording so you can replay it. There is a lot more to doing this. As far as the PC not recognizing the device in question here. You will have to install the driver and software for that device. John

DO NOT format the recorder. That will wipe it clean. The computer does not recognize the device. There must be a piece of software needed to allow the computer to recognize it. If you have an old pc forget it. Dont know about macs.

Try a different manufacturer/brand of DVD-recordable disks.
If you still have the problem, then your drive is malfunctioning,
and you need to get a qualified technician to disassemble your computer, and replace it.

First thing is what operating system is on the computer.
Second is what does device manager say about the recording interface?
Third in audio properties from the task bar icon, what is the default device for recording?

Check that your drivers are properly working, and if they are...see if it will play a regular cd. If both of those work, but it still won't recognize the device, then you've probably got a faulty or burned out CD burner

Go to Start/Control Panel/System/ Hardware /Device Manager/DVD/CD Rom Drives
double click on the Icon and click on the driver tab
click then on the update driver.

This will refresh the system.
But of course it may the the device itself that has failed
Only a replacement will cure that.
