Flash of PowerShot A520 not working

I've had my camera for awhile now, but within the last two weeks suddenly the only way i can take pictures is when i turn the flash off. I press flash and it stalls for an incredibly long time and then never takes the picture, the icon just sort of flashes. any ideas?

You can't do that in the camera. You need to import the picture into an editing program and crop the picture.

A520

this must be a defective product if you did not accidantally drop it go back to the place you bought it or contact canon if that doesn't help. a digital camera is not a one week or one month toy , it should work for at least one year (or even 3 years depending on consumers law.)

Camera display shows "memory card error".

I would give this software a try:
http://www.download.com/VirtualLab-Data-Recovery/3000-2248_4-10610841.html?cdlPid=10801131
and be more vigilant about backing up your pictures. Flash memory can corrupt at any time. Good Luck.

Can not download pictures

Are you using the supplied camera software?
If so
Remove it and let Windows do the work.
Windows can do this on its own with out help.
It will put up the Camera/Scanner Wizard and ask you what to do next- giving various options.

My general advice to DigiCam owners is to leave the software in the box
Windows can do all this without help.
