I've had my camera for awhile now, but within the last two weeks suddenly the only way i can take pictures is when i turn the flash off. I press flash and it stalls for an incredibly long time and then never takes the picture, the icon just sort of flashes. any ideas?

Switching between Shooting and Playback.....32 .... Please note that Canon digital cameras are intended for personal use and should never be used .... Do not operatethe flash with dirt, dust or other items stuck to its lens. ..... PowerShot A520:.
Nov 30, 2007 - It was a fix for a Canon A520, but am not sure if it would work for ..... I have a Canon Powershot A540 which will not turn on and lens is stuck out extended.... (even when they are new) in camera mode and not playback mode.
this must be a defective product if you did not accidantally drop it go back to the place you bought it or contact canon if that doesn't help. a digital camera is not a one week or one month toy , it should work for at least one year (or even 3 years depending on consumers law.)
I would give this software a try: http://www.download.com/VirtualLab-Data-Recovery/3000-2248_4-10610841.html?cdlPid=10801131 and be more vigilant about backing up your pictures. Flash memory can corrupt at any time. Good Luck.
Are you using the supplied camera software? If so Remove it and let Windows do the work. Windows can do this on its own with out help. It will put up the Camera/Scanner Wizard and ask you what to do next- giving various options.
My general advice to DigiCam owners is to leave the software in the box Windows can do all this without help.
