Question about Samsung LN-T4061F 40 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

Firmware update caused static on the display

Like a fool, I upgraded the firmware on my Samsung LN-T4061F from the factory installed version 1007 to version 1019. The TV has been working great for the last year. I downloaded the latest firmware from the Samsung website and applied it according to the instructions. When the TV restarted after the update, the screen was covered in static, every channel, every input. The video problems also affect the menu and information displays, which do not show the correct colors and have static as well. The audio had no problems.

A quick search on Google and the answer was found in another forum. I tried it and it worked. Here it is.

In the below settings, you'll want to press buttons slowly. The TV lags between when you press a button and when it responds.

    0. Set the TV onto an unused source so you have a black or blue screen. This makes reading the menu easier in later steps.
    1. Turn the TV off.
    2. On the remote, press MUTE, 1, 8, 2, POWER
    3. The TV will turn on into service mode. It takes a few seconds after powering on to display the service menu.
    4. Using the arrow buttons on the remote, go down to Option Byte and press Enter.
    5. Arrow down to "Lvds Tx Fmt" and press Enter.
    6. Using the right and left arrow buttons, change the setting. Mine was set to JEIDA. Setting it to VESA fixed things.
    7. Press Menu to exit.
    8. Turn the TV off to apply the changes.

Also, check the info from the link I posted (below) to make sure that a few other settings in Option Byte are correct for your tv.

    Quote:
Make sure the SCREEN SIZE is correct: Panel Option = 46AMW for LN-T4665 displays, and 46AM for LN-T4661 displays.
Make sure that if you own an LN-T4x65 that your Lvds Tx Bit = 10bit.
Make sure if you own an LN-T4x61 that your Lvds Tx Bit = 8bit.
If you own an LN-T4x65, your should change your model so it says "Tulip Side."
If you own an LN-T4x61, you should change the model so it says "Tulip."

I have the problem and tried MUTE-1-2-3-POWER solution, but my remote won't work it out. Is there a way of accessing the service mode or menu using TV button? Or other key combination from remote?

I had the same problem and the suggestion did fix the Digital channel and HDMI input. However, the analog channels show blue-ish color on the picture. Is there any suggestion?

Thank you!!! You sir are a genius!! I was freaking out!! Samsung was insisting that someone had to come and repair my TV.

I have the LN-T4661F. I was getting some jittering so I upgraded the firmware, not realizing that Samsung firmware works like no other firmware I've encountered.

It hosed the TV. I called Samsung and the guy basically told me I screwed myself by downloading a firmware for an issue it wasn't made for. I asked for them to send me an older firmware so I could reflash it. That's not how firmware works (according to him).

He tells me I am 2 days outside of my warranty. Nice. I say well I need to speak to someone higher up. I get a nice lady who offers to extend my warranty by 30 days so we can get it fixed.

She goes off to set up a service call. Comes back and realizes my warranty is good for another 3 months because I registered the TV online! So, then she says there's no repair center within 25 miles, so someone will call me within 3 days to set something up.

I was so mad at myself that I couldn't sleep so I started scouring the net and stumbled across this post.

I can not thank you enough for this information! My only dilemma now is what to tell Samsung in order to cancel the service call!

Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.
