Fl231 fuse quest

I'm wondering is there a replacement fuse that can handle the voltage instead of inserting the same OE (original equipment)? I've replaced my fuse today and within a couple hours it blew again. i'm taking the blame and assuming my soldering skills are not up to par and the reason for it blowing a second time, but a higher rated improved fuse would be reassuring as well. i'm well aware a bad soldering job will not do justice to an improved fuse either, but again if i can eliminate a troubled fuse, troubleshooting a common problem becomes easier.is there a better improved replacement fuse out there?? if so can someone tell me where i can get that?

i also want to thank you for this site. i've saved alot of money, this fuse can blow 10 times and i'd still save money replacing it myself than having a tech make a house call. not that i want to nor hope to, but such a common problem should probably have more attention paid to it by the manufacturer. as much as i love this tv i will not but another rca tv product and thats unfortunate. thanks in advance for all your replys

i fixed my problem with the wire from a bread tie. Works for now. Either something will start on fire, or hurt something else. But it won't blow, and will buy me a while before I get another TV!!

Did you resolder the flyback? this is the main reason this fuse blows this is a .400ma fuse.

The flyback kaliki73 is the large black component with the big red wire coming from the top (kinda looks like a car distribitor)

I see a possible fix for missing convergence on a rca hd52w59 by replacing the convergence fuse. I've looked all over and can't find it. If it really has this fuse, where is it??? Thanks

If your looking in the rear of the set on the far left side you will see a large black HV transformer that has a large red wire coming from its top. Thats the flyback transformer look directly to the right of that and you will see three small brown rectangles with FL221, FL231 and FL251 stamped on it. The center one is FL231 if thats blown the set will have a 3D look and the auto convergence feature will no longer be listed under the setup menu.

Replaced the fl231 fuse tv worked for day now blown again and tv keeps shutting off what do i check now

Resolder the flyback pins as thats what causes the FL231 fuse to blow. Soldering the flyback should solve the issue you may need to replace the fl231 again

Can I use a thermal fuse from Radio shack in place of the FL231 micro fuse? the thermal fuse has a 250vac with a max current of 10a?

I wouldn't. Fuses that expire must be replaced with the same type and rating as the original otherwise your safety may be compromised.

Wont turn on after replacing FL231 fuse on a RCA HD52W59

If you replaced the fuse alone without installing the other components that are rquired to repair that issue the new fuse can allow voltages to flow trough the diode in both directions which can prevent the set from firing up. You need to replace the FL231, DL231 and CL230 as a set then reflow the solder on the flyback and vertical IC.

RCA R52WH74 (ITC222A Chassis)

no the board that has the FL231 on is the ITC222 deflection board. The other board is above the chassis in a seperate frame that runs across the set the convergence power supply is the board on the left above the board where the fL231 is. Yes the ITC222 and ITC222A are the same chassis. As for the service manual that site should have the service manual under the thomson category as the ITC 222 chassis is actually a thomson chassis made for RCA.

Fl231 fuse compatibility

yes, thats the replacement fuse for your set. However unless you have replaced the convergence power supply also chances are the fuse will blow again, as the power supply shorting is what causes the convergence to get out of alignment and it will then blow FL231 thereby removing the convergence option from the menu.

Fl231

Its just a regular fuse some models have F231 instead of FL231 it should be just to the upper right side of the flyback.

RCA 52w59 projection fuse fl231

Instead of taking the board out, I just soldered two wires to the old fl231 fuse on the underside. Installed a fuse holder with a half amp fuse. And I re-soldered all of the flyback points. My tv is working like new. thanks for everyone's help.
